Thank you to @Dan Morris and @Gregory for their help with the Monty Python "Meaning of Life" cast-signed photo in my previous post. Although not authentic, I am grateful the dealer honored his COA and provided a refund despite the purchase being twenty years ago.

My other Monty Python item is the below SIG set (missing Graham Chapman) displayed with the "chase" cards from The Holy Grail collector card set. These signatures look more consistent with the SIG set shared in my previous post by @alan david munns (noting the Michael Palin is definitely a different style). These signatures were acquired through multiple sellers on eBay so it is quite possible some may be authentic while others are not.

Please share opinions and comments on this set. Thank you in advance to everyone on this forum who share their experience and knowledge.

Monty Python Cast-Signed Photo - Meaning of Lifetag:live.autographmagazine.com,2020-04-16:3524372:Topic:14574772020-04-16T17:01:21.780Zbeardog1https://live.autographmagazine.com/profile/beardog1

I purchased this 20+ years ago. The seller said he received it directly from Graham Chapman. Although the dealer is highly regarded, I would appreciate other opinions.

I have seen various signatures from the Monty Python troupe. Two specific observations are the John Cleese seems more legible and the Michael Palin does not have the "symbol-like" look of later signatures.

Thank you.…

Twenty years ago I was THRILLED when I acquired a Monty Python cast-signed photo. It was a BIG investment for me so I focused my quest on UACC registered dealers which ultimately connected me with Al Wittnebert.

Fast forward to today when I had the pleasure of speaking with Al again (unfortunately interrupting his lunch). I explained that I had some concerns about authenticity since the signatures were different from many of the contemporary exemplars (especially Cleese, Gilliam and Palin), but were consistent with one example I found online (link). Although it had been twenty years, he remembered the specific item right away. Perhaps it was memorable because he had acquired directly from Graham Chapman.

As collectors know, provenance and documentation are everything so I asked Al if he could confirm this story for me to attach to the photo for future generations of collectors. I am sharing the story and the signatures here for consideration in evaluating other Monty Python materials.

It says a lot for Al's expertise, professionalism and character that he continues to have a stellar reputation in our industry. He was generous with his time with me today and continues to be a true professional. Thank you, Mr. Wittnebert.
