Hi! This Alec Guinness looks good to me. But can anyone understand the ”Star Wars 1968” inscription, since the first movie didn’t premiere until 1977?

To me it looks like it’s written by Guinness himself. What do you think?

Thank you for helping!

I believe this is not authentic -- and a professional examiner who was on the fence about the signature would quickly disqualify it based on the 1968 inscription, for the reasons you pointed out.

Appreciate your opinion!

I'm not an authority on Guinness but the autograph looks absolutely real to me as long as it's not a reproduction of a real one. Star Wars Autograph Universe has an authentication service that is superb at SW autographs. An online opinion is $10. Go for it:

Thank you Steve my friend!

I agree with you, Pete Bendu and the SWAU crew is without a doubt the best when it comes to Star Wars!

I actually just got the result from their quick opinion and based on that I bought it!

Congratulations! It's a great piece.

Glad to hear you liked it!

Now it’s just the usual question, keep it in my collection or resell to get some extra money for this summers holiday with the family!

The problem with being a collector with a to small wallet for the items you like… :-)

I stand corrected. Sorry, folks, for the bum assessment.

No worries my friend, you were just trying to help and the wrong date was for sure a ”red flag”. But as it turned out, that mistake from Alec Guinness only makes this one even more rare! :-)

Glad it worked out. It’s a beautiful piece.

Thank you, glad to hear that!

I'm guessing Guinness made a simple mistake in the date. If SW came out in 1977 and was an established blockbuster by 1978, , it's possible Guinness simply make a mistake and dated it 1968 when it should have been 1978--as us older folks are likely to do when writing dates, among other things.

Agree, I think that’s exactly what happened!
