I totally get that, but in this case he’s going to the effort and expense of having the item restored. Obviously, it won’t be cheap. No, we’ll never know.
Yes, I think he was afraid of the possibility that the truth might not align with family lore.
He was totally unwilling to separate the acceptance that his father was where he claimed to be, and the healthy skepticism about the signatures' authenticity.
He refused to answer the question about whether or not his father actually witnessed the items being signed. He probably didn't know.
He claimed to have affidavits and witnesses, but of what? Proving that his father had a particular assignment, or that he witnessed the signing?
And another thing....why would he even have sought affidavits and witnesses unless maybe the authenticity had been questioned earlier?
I suspect we'll never know.
And if the cards weren’t handed off to someone, then his father fabricated the story. 😎✌🏻
Look's like a Neil Aspinall special to me.
Neil Aspinall strikes again!
Ballroom, I had the crazy notion of getting the thing authenticated first. I'm sure you did too. I wonder if our friend did have someone look at it, finally, just to shut us up. He has not posted that. There are countless threads where such a situation has popped up, and the OP says "I'll let you know..."...and we never hear from them again.
I seriously doubt that he had anyone look at it. He was adamant that the issue had nothing to do with authentication. It could have been any artist. The fact that it’s the Beatles didn’t matter at all. It was simply about removing peel and stick laminate.
That is another pertinent question he refused to answer if you recall - his example of a Butcher cover was perhaps apples and oranges - he would not clarify.
Honestly, you should send him a digest message with the links to the various Beatles threads that have come up just within the last two weeks -- most of them have been judged as fake by the members here.
That would requite a listening ear. OP seemed closed.
I didn’t send him links, but I did express to him how often that happens. Eric is correct. His ears are closed. I explained the Neil Aspinall situation and asked if he was 100% certain that the Beatles signed four sets in his father’s presence. No answer.
Until shown otherwise, that is answer enough for me! I was SO looking to seeing 4 sets signed back to back on a known day and time/location.
