Would it be more financially beneficial to purchase a non-signed guitar just like this one, then swap the pick guards, and end up w/ 2 guitars? (One signed by Jimmy Page and the other by Robert Plant.) Or would it be more valuable if left alone as is, w/ both signatures on 1 guitar?

Are you planning to sell soon? If not, and you have a shot of getting John Paul Jones sometime, definitely keep it together.

I seriously doubt that I will ever meet him. So in your opinion, which is better idea? Swap the guards or leave alone? Thanks!

For me, I like to see the two sigs together - what could be called "just" a pickguard is perhaps shown to best advantage when attached to a guitar whose body is actually signed, which is always more desirable. The bulk of the value I think is that you have the sign on the body - remove the pickguard and the guitar still has "power". The loose pickguad, no quite so much even when attached to another guitar. YMMV.

Wow! That's surprising to me. To me (personally) a signed pick guard attached to a guitar is equal to a body signed guitar. But that's just my opinion and why I'm asking experts for theirs. Thanks for your help!

Well, imagine the pickguard signed loose on a clipboard and just attached to a guitar. Now imagine a guitar being held and signed on the body by your celebrity. One of these has a bit more "inherent" value IMHO. There are many comments here about this. Many prefer sigs on the body. You can "swap out a pickguard" - you can't "swap out" a signed body.

Thanks again! Mind if I ask what YMMV and IMHO stands for?

Sure. "Your mileage may vary" and "In my humble opinion". Sorry, I was lazy and did not type them out.

  • I've sent a friend request.

  • there is a photo posted today I think which I can't find that shows one of the Beastie Boys signing about 25 guards all laying atop one other with just enough showing to be signed - it just kind of takes the magic away. Imagining Robert Plant holding your guitar - quite different!

I see your point. Thanks!

I would keep the two togethor unless you had a chance to meet page. In that situation I would pull the guard off and have Page sign the body.

Well said.

On this same subject. An honest, unbiased, no nonsense objectivity, etc. What would be a true, "as is" price value on it? Thanks again!

u bought the guitar at ha congrats

its better too leave as one
