Opinions on Julien's Auctions, www.juliensauctions.com

I purchased a few items from them years ago. Do people on here generally find their autographs legit? My research has shown they have a good reputation and sell some high end collections.  I guess I question the items I bought from them a little. I guess I should see if they will put the items I purchased in one of their upcoming auctions.

Let me know what you think.

Hi Chad,

I have had a look a few times and some items looked good but I haven't looked since they sold a fake John Lennon signed Double Fanatsy Lp which was published by Mike Frost on one of his websites. This Lp was described as his last ever autograph which we all know wasn't. I found a picture of it on http://autographnews.net

Greig,

If that's the Lennon-signed Double Fantasy that was signed for the sound man during an interview, I think that album is fine and I don't recall Darren Julien selling it. I believe that's the one Tracks bought from the sound guy last year.

Hi Steve,The handwriting and signature do not compare to any Lennon examples from the 80's. This was featured on a Frost website think it was IADA. It said on there that the item was being sold through Juliens.
I've seen a few collectors discussing this on various forums when it first was published.

HI Greig,

It's a Double Fantasy poster...not an album! I just checked my notes. That's the one owned by Ron Hummel, the sound engineer for Lennon's last interview. Tracks bought the album. I think for about £20,000 or so. USD $32,000.

Lennon had difficulty signing it due to the slickness of the poster, and signed it in ballpoint and Sharpie. Here's the recording:

251 JOHN LENNON SIGNED "DOUBLE FANTASY" ALBUM

$8,750

The above is the only thing I could find on their site about a signed Double Fantasy album. I remember seeing or hearing about it.

I searched online and an article reports "

The interview Hummel taped was Lennon's last, and his autograph likely his last before the one he gave Chapman. On Tuesday, Hummel sold the autograph for $40,000 — a record for the former Beatle's signature — to Tracks LTD, the world's leading dealer in Beatles autographs and memorabilia.

The sale was negotiated by Allentown native Denny Somach, a Beatles expert and memorabilia dealer who has written two best-sellers on the Beatles.

Hummel's autograph had strong evidence for its historical significance. The signing was chronicled in the book "Starting Over: The Making of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 'Double Fantasy,' " by music author Ken Sharp, released in October.

In addition, Hummel left the tape rolling after the interview and captured the exchanges among himself, Lennon and Lennon's wife, Yoko Ono, as Lennon and Ono signed the poster.

On the recording, Lennon is heard struggling because the glossy poster is difficult to write on, and as he goes over the signature with a ballpoint pen as well.

"Who's the poster for?" Lennon asks, so he can personalize it.

"Ron," says Hummel, who thanks him.

"It's a pleasure," Lennon says. "I'm a fan of people, too. I like people to sign their books when they give them to me and all that."

This sounds like pretty good provenance. http://articles.mcall.com/2011-07-20/entertainment/mc-lennon-autogr...

Chad, thanks for looking it up. Denny Somach did say it went for $40,000 but it went for less according to what Tracks told me, and they bought it.

I'm not aware of the LP Julien's sold. But it was an LP and not a poster! I don't know if any other Double Fantasy signed posters are known.

I suppose I should just upload an image of what I purchased and see what people think. I generally like their items and trust the authenticity.

Here is an image for you to check out along with part of my receipt.

I have a set of Beatles purchased from them as well.
