Note:  11/3/2011  THREAD RULEs;

1. If You are gonna post a picture in this Thread then PLEASE leave it POSTED.  When there is commentary for it or comparisons & then removed the Thread overall has a problem and many, including me, don't know what the heck someone is/was talking about.  If it's a personally owned one then put a watermark on it if that's a worry.  But DON"T Delete.  I do from time to time copy them just in case but now always" . 11/3/2011

2. If you are posting an item from an "auction" site (ebay etc...) then pls post the actual picture, and then a link to it along with the "auction" or source site.  Links become dated and items disappear for a variety of reasons (12/4/2011)

As one wanders around the WWW on auction sites or blogs it is inevitable that the "secretarials" verbiage will arise.  There are many breakout discussions (see a partial list below that hopefully, I captured the greater majority of threads) and in typical fashion we deviate on many threads (which I have not captured) and throw in a secretarial here & there.

Many times the secretarials focus on the high end selling items as opposed to the mid level ones e.g. The Honeymooners.  Of course, the secretarials differ, at least in verbiage, to the Clubhouse, AutoPen or outright forgeries (there are lots of good threads on) but that is not for this discussion.

But back to the midlevel ones like Roy & Dale Evans,  Barbara Striesand,  Mary Tyler Moore or Tony Curtis to mention a few.   I will add 3 pictures of authentic ones (there may be variations) for the latter three but don't have the secretarials for a side by side (which I like to see as it provides a good visual).  Anyone have some?  So at the risk of biting off too much (if an area takes off, perhaps I can create a breakout thread for it) what are OTHER KNOWN Secretarials and their Authentic ones and why Secretarials?

Hi, DB,

Based on an earlier discussion in this thread, isn't this Mary Tyler Moore PSA/DNA certified autograph a secretarial?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MARY-TYLER-MOORE-SIGNED-AUTOGRAPHED-8X10-PH...

Based on Eli's commentary on page 1 it would appear that way.  If you notice the ones directly below (some don't have confirmation one way or the other) Eli's commentary there was debate with R&R on mary tyler moores and no resolution however this one ought to clearly fall within the secretarial realm.

Ooops PSA/DNA.

Appears EBAY concurred with the analysis;

Item 120907746071 is no longer available.

Thanks for the update, DB. I get a few right.

not about the batting average but the continued persistence to go to the plate & take your cuts ;-)

Peter, can you believe the seller cantonandcooper has relisted it 5 months later?  Just happen to stumble across it from some other questions on Ted Williams items from this seller.

& once again, another non-authentic item gets off the reservation 'cause 1. Ebay can't do their job  2. PSA/DNA once again screws up!

and 3. the four buyers don't do due diligence while thinking it's PSA/DNA it MUST be Authentic and this buyer thinks he got a "steal"!

somedays it takes alot more time and effort than it's worth....

for the 2nd time; This listing (251180869489) has been removed or is no longer available

I just don't understand how professionals can be so wrong so badly. These guys get paid money to do this.

It seems there is a debate amongst some with regards to MTM secretarial -vs- authentic.  At R&R there have been discussions but it seems inconclusive which is why a few R&R earlier ones posted look alot like this one. It would be nice if we could somehow gain enough traction to push them off the fence.

I actually have a vested interest in this debate...A year ago I found an email address supposedly for MTM. I sent an email and, a month later, this arrived signed to my daughter. I have long since filed it in my "secretarials" folder. Could it be possible that sending her an email would get you a free, personalized autograph? I highly doubt it.

(I have included the return address as it was printed on the envelope we received).
