Hi everybody,

I'm interested in this letter from Senator Joseph McCarthy (yes ...). For it seems to be a Letter to a Personal friend it should be handsigned.

On the other hand, I found these quite different looking sigs, the second being sold by Swann Galleries:

My question: Did his signature change that much between 1952 and 1956 or was some of his mail signed by a secretary?

What does R.L. underneath the sig mean? Is it possibly the "trademark" that it was secretarial signed? Or does it have something to do with his function as Senator - like the Queen adding an R to her signature?

But the again: "R.L." is missing in the letter from 1952 which he signed as Senator as well ...
