<p>As suggested in the article, I think the smudge was actually attractive to the final two bidders who fought over this. Personally, I would take such fish n' chip stories with a large pinch of salt (pun intended). I don't know why John would eat chips with his fingers in a canteen. If this had been from the gig in Norwich, after which they went across the road to Valori's fish bar, the story would have been much more plausible. </p>
