I agree that it sucks when there is not a stated shipping cost until after the auction ends, and then you are pretty much helpless.

With those state sales taxes added on to the already inflated auction fees, plus shipping, plus insurance, it will take a pretty special item for me to pay that excessive add-on over and above the sales price.

Yes Tracey your correct. The auctions have over heads but almost taking 50% plus taxes its brutal. In the states you deal with your own taxes abroad we pay import taxes so it's just as bad.

Iconic charge 10% consignment fee and pay you within a a fortnight.

more than the fees is the unknow shipping. I just got hit from a auction house to some concert posters 100$ .I figured at the most it would be 50$ top dollar.

I figure everything else in but the unknow shipping is always a gamble

I remember in the late '80's / early '90's -- many auction house charged a 10% buyer's commission. It slowly started rising until now they are your basically your partner taking as much as 40-50% of the final price when you factor in all the buyer/seller fees (and now taxes). If anyone here has ever bought comic books from with either Comic Connect or Comic Link -- they charge a flat 10% from the seller only. So the buyer pays ZERO commission which is great for both parties. I keep waiting…

Woody2Shows: You are are correct in that the WA state sales tax by itself is 6.5% With local sales taxes tagged on, it can be up to 10.4% ( see https://www.avalara.com/taxrates/en/state-rates/washington.html). In any case, my tax was 10% which obviously includes local sales tax. So I got hit with state and local sales tax. I may have been somewhat inaccurate in my initial presentation of it being just state sales tax. Local sales tax based on my mailing address also applied. The general point still stands, however, that folks should be aware of the change in policy and possible extra sales tax depending on where one lives.
There's no state in the union…tag:live.autographmagazine.com,2019-08-17:3524372:Comment:13792422019-08-17T00:49:22.597ZWoody2Shoeshttps://live.autographmagazine.com/profile/Woody2Shoes

There's no state in the union that is 10% sales tax. I believe Tenn, at 9.45% us the top rate. National average is what? About 7 to 7.7%

Washington state sales tax = 6.5%. What are they sticking an extra 3.5% in their pockets by collecting 10%? Anybody ask? It's illegal to collect sales tax at a higher rate than is state prescribed. They should be reported to the state sales tax bureau, a complaint lodged. If they want to charge 10%, they shouldn't call it sales tax. It's illegal to do so. They should call it 6.5% sales tax and 3.5% highway robbery tax, or something like that. Report them.
The buyer pays 25% buyers fee plus state sales tax and shipping & insurance

This will hurt auction houses , let’s see who the 1st auction house will be smart enough to lower their fees to offset the tax , that auction house will win business ,
