You may have noticed that the book "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L'Engle will soon be a blockbuster movie from Disney. I loved that book when I was in elementary school, and I remember the author visiting my 2nd grade class to discuss it.

Because of that, I decided to see if any decent and reasonably priced L'Engle autographs might be available at this time. The first image copied below is on eBay for only $50 (click here), so I decided to check it out. I was concerned about how uneven writing is, but you never know...

Doing an Internet search for L'Engle autographs, I found the second image copied below at this web site (click here) that contains autographs of science fiction authors that the owner of the site has collected. Look familiar? I noted that the site hasn't been updated since 2009.

The "L'Engle" eBay seller, ouhlaquelbazar (99.6% positive feedback since 2005), has numerous other questionable autographs that seem to be signed in the same shaky hand with the same type of black pen, including another "L'Engle signed" book (see third image copied below - look familiar?). Hi guys I'm new to this and could really use some help. If anyone is knowledgeable on today's music and they're signatures that would be willing to help me out with if this is a true authentic or a fake. Even though it has the COA it can always be wrong. Please help and get back to me when you can.

Hi,

This is not strictly-speaking about autographs but I was wondering if anyone has had any negative (or positive) experiences in buying original art from Preston Hall gallery in Texas.

They hold several auctions each year and there are often drawings or watercolors "attributed to" artists such as Dali, Warhol, Toulouse Lautrec, Chagall etc. Sometimes they are signed, sometimes not.
The site carries prominent disclaimers about authenticity not being verified by the gallery but many pieces still sell for thousands of dollars.

Emerson Lake & Palmer - Fine Art Print, possible scam Posted by Seleznev Dmitri on May 24, 2016 at 3:58am in Music Autographs & MemorabiliaView Discussions Last year I discovered on the Emerson Lake & Palmer official web site a beautiful Art Print signed by all three members of legendary progressive rock band. Provenance, condit, etc. all looks legit. Plus: this is official web site! Placed an order immediately. Week passed and item wasn't shipped out. Contacted management ( good communication by the way) and was told there are some technical problems. Another week passed, nothing shipped out, contacted again and was told that they can not collect a signature from Greg Lake, it will take about a month. Kind a surprise since it has been advertised that all prints are pre-signed! But I wanted it really bad so decided to wait. 2 month passed and still nothing. Finally, I cancelled transaction and requested a full refund. No problem. But just now, when I found out that Keith Emerson passed away I tried to obtain a desirable artifact again. This time I contacted management first and was confirmed by manager Daniel Earnshaw that there is a stock of art print with all signatures is available. Placed an order. Five days later received email stated : due to the stock demands item will not be shipped until end of June ( today is May 24). I cancelled transaction and requested refund. Now, a lots of questions are going through my mind, such as: 1. Yesterday ITEMS are available and today they are not. Possible. But how are you going to collect a signature from the dead person??? 2. If you follow the link and check a web site it states that art prints already signed and numbered. So if you are out you are out. 3. Second time, same story. Made a payment but item is unavailable but still advertised. The whole thing smells really bad. What do you think, fellow collectors? Mr. Cyrkin, what is your opinion on this case? If you need additional information I'll be happy to provide it. Thanks a bunch everyone in advance. Dmitri. Joe long was a prolific, master forger, and I am starting to learn that there are a lot of his autographs out there that people still think are real, so much so that they are influencing collectors to think that the fakes are authentic examples. Here is a case in point:

If you do a Google search for "Brian Epstein autograph" you will be brought to the page that contains your search items. From that page, here is an example that is currently found near the top of "authentic" signed items:

Unfortunately, there are others on the Google search page that match this this style of (Joe Long) forgery. The comments concerning the fake example shown here ask whether or not this piece will sell for $1000 or more, which it could have.

I have seen this exact style of autograph on known Joe Long forgeries, which become more apparent as fakes when you look at real Brian Epstein exemplars. Some of the best exemplars have Epstein signing contracts with the Beatles, as he was pretty much considered their fifth member in the early to mid-60s. The advantage that Joe Long had when he sold his fakes a couple of decades ago was that he didn't have the oversight and scrutiny of the Internet that we all have now.

This is important because Brian Epstein was the Beatles manager, and frequently on tour with them during their first few years of touring and success. He contributed greatly to that success, as outlined in the excellent biography "The Man Who Made The Beatles." Therefore, Brian Epstein's signature is desirable and valuable. It will only make sense that emerging forgers will figure this out, and by adding Brian Epstein to their sets they will have one more way of conning people into buying their garbage, as Joe Long did. Caveat emptor.

I am continuing this research into something that can be published and made available to all, so if you have anything to add to it I hope that you please let me know.
