2 TTMs yesterday. First, voice actor, Jodi Carlisle signed both of my Hulk Hogan's Rock-N-Wrestling pictures on the back, so these will be going on Listia. Second, voice actress, Hyden Walch signed my Starfire card.
Oh, man, Russ! GLOW was one of my favorite shows growing up. I never, NEVER, missed an episode. The only gals that come close to the wrestling skills these Gorgious Ladies had back in the day are the TNA Knockouts. The WWE Divas are just a bunch of models rolling around in the ring, now that all they've watered down that division.
The 'Ole Professor scored 2 nice ones today. First, I got the autograph of Herbert Boyer, member of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, and inventor of the modern day insulin used to treat today's diabetics. Did you all know that before Mr. Boyer's invention, doctors used insulin extracted from the pancreas of ox to treat those afflicted with diabetes. Sometimes these extracts were impure and would cause very harmful and painful allergic reactions. But with Mr. Boyer's dedication, Humulin was finally put on the market, and has no doubt saved the lives of countless diabetics.
Then, I was graciously able to receive the autograph of the winner of the 1995 PGA Championship, Steve Elkington. Steve was neck and neck with Colin Montgomerie, and finished in a tie. He then birdied the first playoff hole to claim the tournament win.
Today, I got my Hero cards back from, Nascar hauler driver, Kirk George unsigned with a note from Hendrick Motorsports saying that they are returning my cards because George doesn't work for them any longer. Oh well, at least they returned my cards. They could have just chucked them.
Scored 2 very nice historical figures today. The first one is Vinton Cerf, one of the creators of the internet and vice president of Google. Mr. Cerf, along with Robert Kahn, designed the computer protocols that became what we know today as the internet. He is probably the greatest computer scientist of all-time, although Bob Kahn would probably argue with that! :)
Next I got the autograph of Harold Fritz, a 1971 recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor. Mr. Fritz was riding in an armored convoy on January 11, 1969, when it was ambushed. Seriously injured, Mr. Fritz leaped atop of his burning vehicle and directed the counter attack. Nearly overrun, he then manned a machine gun and led a small group in a daring charge that pushed back the remaining insurgents. Truly a remarkable story.
Hey Russ, never have met Road Dog, but I have met his brothers Steve and Scott Armstrong, and his daddy, Hall of Famer "Bullet" Bob Armstrong. The are some of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. And I got Steve Ensminger exactly 2 years ago this week! Signed mine in that purple Sharpie, too, which adds a nice touch in my opinion. Let me know if you want to compare yours with mine.
Add a tough, and I do mean TOUGH, TTM signer to my Braves collection yesterday, in the former of Ron Gant. Ron was a great outfielder for us back when we started that magical run of championship success. He was the third player in baseball history to record back-to-back 30/30 seasons in 1990 and 1991, a Silver Slugger Award winner in 1991, and an All-Star in 1992 for the Braves, and an All-Star again with the Reds in 1995. He is now a morning news show host here in Atlanta on Fox 5's show Good Day Atlanta. This is the first successful TTM request of Mr. Gant on the sportscollectors.net website since January 19, 2011. Very happy to have this one.
Decent mailday today. I got 1 of 1 from James Britt, 1 of 3 from Mark Thurmond.4 of 4 from Jeff Bostic, 2 of 2 from Capt. and Tennille,4 of 6 from Bill Mueller and Nancy Cartwright returned my cards unsigned and sent a signed bookmark.
Don't you guys just love it when you get more than what you ask for? I sent a letter to Mr. Martin Cooper, inventor of the cell phone and member of the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Not knowing what to send these great men and women of ingenuity, I have been sending blank index cards, as they are just a nice, simple thing to use that allows for an autograph to show up nicely. Well Mr. Cooper went one step further, and replaced the index card with this nice 5x7 of himself with his wonderful invention! I am so proud to add this to my collection.
And to top the day off, I also got this sweet 1982 Topps Tommy Boggs autograph. Tommy was a pitcher for the Rangers and Braves from 1976-1985. He was the pitcher on the mound when Bobby Cox earned his first ever ejection from a ball game in 1978, and also simply tortured the 1980 Dodgers all season long, costing them the National League Western Division title.
Has Anyone Bought from Premier Auctions ever? I just got my purchase back I bought a 2002 Washington Mystics WNBA signed basketball, 23 Playboy centerfolds signed , including , Kimberly Hefner, Shannon Tweed , Shanna Moakler (2)
Thought I would venture out in to the world of NASCAR this year. I love watching all the rivalries and storylines from the drivers and teams in this sport, and the fact that it is so generational. Got this nice Michael Waltrip in today. Michael was a 2-time Daytona 500 champion in 2001 and 2003, and is a fantastic car owner, announcer, and author. What a way to kick off my NASCAR empire!
Steve, I wrote to John Glenn in the summer of 2011, and received the item back signed a few months later. He will only sign 1 item. As Jeff stated, write him to the Ohio State Univ addy.
To start the week off i got autos ttm from micky ward, bob schieffer, chevy chase, and jeremy renner. The mail person has been very nice to me the last few days!
I've placed my order to Dave Elkouby (Star World), one of the co-owners of the Hollywood Show, for autographed photos of Ron Ely (Tarzan;1966-68) and Haywood Nelson (What's Happenin') who are appearing at the show this weekend. I'm still awaiting word and return of my Barbara Mandrell signed autobiography which I mailed out to her on March 14, 2013.
Good mailday to end the wee. First, I got 1 of 1 from Doug Moreau. Also One of One from Mark Whiten.
The best one though was a Wrestling USA magazine from 1987 that I sent to Nick Bockwinkle. Not only did he sign the cover, but also signed 3 of the pages inside! Awesome success!
