Got my first TTM autograph of 2015 today, in the form of a hand written letter from Leonard Flom, inventor of the iris recognition scanner and member of the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Dr. Flom worked with his partner, Dr. Aran Safir, to develop a high level security scanner that could scan the eyes and be more accurate at identification than finger prints. His story is incredible. So happy to add this to my collection.
Poor rubber stamp response from, Texas Governor Greg Abbott today. Even sent along a printed piece of paper. The good news is that he didn't use my sase, so I technically didn't waste a stamp. I'm going to try and remove the stamp and send it out to either a past governor or the next guy.
Russ, Those are some awesome autographed cards of The Chief. Getting a request sent out to him this week myself. Fingers crossed. This weekend, I got a return from Olympic gold medalist, Dan Gable. Dan is probably the greatest wrestler of all-time. He began wrestling as a way to help his mother and father cope with the death of his sister, who was tragicly murdered when he was 15. What started out as a form of giving his family something to cheer about soon turned into an obsession to be the best in the world, and at the 1972 Summer Olympics, Dan won the gold medal in the 68 kg Freestyle Division....without surrendering a single point for all 7 matches. Nobody had ever done that before, and nobdy has ever done that since. One of the most remarkable athletes of all-time.
2 TTMs to start a new week. First, Lita Ford signed 2 of 2 for me. Next, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker did not return my card signed, but did send a very nice signed 5x7. They even put it in this fancy holder for me.
Today's mail brought me my favorite baseball player today, current Astro and former Brave Evan Gattis. I sure hated seeing him go to Houston and leave my Braves, but the same thing happened when I was a kid with David Justice. So happy to have Evan on this card.
My mail box had goodies in it 2 days in a row! Today I received an autograph from Richard F. Gordon, Jr. Capt. Gordon was the pilot for both the Gemini 11 and Apollo 12 missions NASA conducted in the 1960s. He is one of only 24 people to ever fly to the moon, and is a member of the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame. So honored to have this true American hero and pioneer as part of my collection.
Another icon came in the mail today by way of Franklin "Pepper" Rodgers. Mr. Rodgers is a college football legend, and should be in the College Football Hall of Fame. He was a kicker and quarterback at Georgia Tech, with many accolaids: kicked the game winning 22-yard field goal in the 1952 Orange Bowl to beat 9th ranked Baylor; passed for 55 yards and a touchdown to go along with kicking 2 extra points and a field goal in helping lead Georgia Tech to a 24-7 win over 6th ranked Ole Miss in the 1953 Sugar Bowl and a claim to the 1952 National Championship; passed for 195 yards and 3 touchdowns to go along with an 18-yard field goal to win the Sugar Bowl MVP award in Tech's 42-19 rout of 11th ranked West Virginia. Mr. Rodgers went on to have a very successful coaching career, too, coaching Kansas to the Big Eight Conference championship in 1968, and Georgia Tech to a 7-4 record and a Peach Bowl appearance in 1977.
Got 3 nice autographs in this week: current major league pitcher Kris Medlen, current Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Dick LeBeau. Kris currently is with the Royals rehabbing from elbow surgery, but while he was with my Atlanta Braves, he set a major league record in 2012 by going 23 consecutive starts without losing a game. Matt was a tremendous third baseman for the Giants, Indians, and Diamondbacks from 1987-2003: 5-time National League All-Star, 4-time Gold Glove Award winner, 4-time Silver Slugger Award winner, National League RBI (1990) and homerun leader (1994,) and member of the Diamondbacks 2001 World Series championship team. Last year, Matt was the National League Manager of the Year in his first year ever managing the Washington Nationals. Dick LeBeau was a tremendous force for those tough Lions defenses of the 1960s. He is 7th all-time in NFL history with 62 career interceptions, and was one of the greatest defensive coordinators of all-time, too, helping the Steelers win Super Bowls XL and XLIII as the head of their defensive staff.
Babb, you've been killin' it, my man! Got my second one for the month of April today, astronaut Jose Hernandez, mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery for STS-128, a NASA mission that was flown to remove and replace some key segments of the International Space Station.
Hi all. Yes, I'm still around. I have just been lazy about posting my ttm success on this site. I have been very busy the past month doing in person signings, attending cons, Listia, and ttm. My good buddy Robert Baab actually got me off of my behind and told me that I needed to start posting again! So here we go. Saturday's success came from, NXT wrestler, Enzo Amore. He signed my 4x6 and signed my letter!
First Monday mail day of May brought a nice handful of signatures. First, I received 1 of 1 from, former Eagles kicker, Jeff Feagles. Next, Holly Dunn was kind enough to sign 4 cards for me and my daughter. Dr. Ken Dye of the University of Notre Dame marching band signed a CD cover for me. Finally, Ken Schrader signed 3 of 3 hero cards for me including one that was previously signed by Jeff Gordon!
Another spring training failure. This time from David Price of the Detroit Tigers. I got my card returned, unsigned, with a letter that he will only sign for the Tigers charity and its $40 a pop. Sorry, but for $40, I would rather have something nicer than a trading card signed. Also, Price isn't that good of a player to constitute paying that much for an autograph.
