I went to see Steve Earle and The Dukes on Sunday 25th October in Dublin's historic Olympia Theatre. As always he put on a wonderful show and at the beginning he said that after the show he would be around to say hello to anyone who wanted to say hi. And true to his word he and the rest of The Dukes appeared after the show in the lobby to take photographs, chat and sign items.

It was well organised and Mr.Earle was charming, thoughful and gave people the time to chat and pose for photographs despite having just played for three hours! I bought an LP and a poster and he happily signed both.

It was refreshing to see that someone who has been in the music business so long, has managed to avoid feeling jaded or annoyed when it comes to dealing with fans and people who want autographs as a memento.

Hats off to Steve Earle, a true musical genius and man who knows how to treat his fans!
Warning! Don't ask Ewan McGregor for an autographtag:live.autographmagazine.com,2014-10-30:3524372:BlogPost:6687282014-10-30T08:01:00.000ZMickohttps://live.autographmagazine.com/profile/Micko

Here's what Ewan McGregor thinks of Autograph hunters. Just thought I should share this if anyone was thinking of approaching him, I'd think twice!

From the article:

Ewan McGregor has branded autograph hunters "parasitical lowlifes".

The 43-year-old actor - who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in 'Star Wars Episode I-III' - insists he rarely meets real fans, just people who want to make money from his signature.

Asked how 'Star Wars' fans have responded to him, he told Details magazine: "I don't have any experience with them. I've never been to one of the conventions.

"The people I meet are the f***ers who want me to sign 'Star Wars' photos so they can sell them on the Internet or the people at premieres who are crushing children against barriers to get me to sign their f***ing picture of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

"They're not fans -- they're parasitical lowlifes and f***ing w****rs."

I was really sad to hear of the passing of a true comedy legend Rik Mayall who passed away on June 9th, aged 56.

As part of the 1980's alternative comedy wave that turned British comedy on it's head, he was a shining light and a true star. He and his partners in crime did to the comedy establishment what the Sex Pistols did to music! It was that revolutionary and fierce!

With his characters Kevin Turvey from the series 'A Kick Up the Eighties' and The Dangerous Brothers they started a fire (often literally on stage!) Then came the genre breaking 'The Young Ones', followed by his outrageous turn as the politician Alan B'Astard in 'The New Statesman' and then the comedic violence of 'Bottom' ,his scene stealing role as Lord Flashheart in 'Blackadder'. Not to mention his various hilarious turns in 'The Comic Strip Presents' series. It's one hell of a legacy!

For a whole generation of kids brought up in the Eighties he was a true legend of comedy and will be sorely missed.

Here's a flyer I got signed when I was lucky enough to meet him in Cannes at the film festival in 1997 when he was promoting the film 'Bring Me the Head of Mavis Davis'. He was a true gent and took the time to have a quick chat a photo and sign this for me, And yes it does read 'For Sexy Mick Death F**k- Rik Mayall' - Ha!

You are lucky enough to meet your idols or at least get a friend who works at a venue to ask your heroes to sign something. You've brought along a great item and you're armed with pens/ permanent marker. And when you get the piece back, the damn pen has ceased or bled, basically mucked up that precious signing.

I had the pleasure of getting Cheap Trick to sign my copy of 'Budokan' I had waited years for them to play in Ireland and then they come...and I get the item signed and the silver pen smudges on all the signings wrecking that lovely Tom Petersen sig and Rick Nielsen's black marker is running out! Damn!

What was your worst in person pen disaster?? I'd love to know...
RIP Sid Caesar - A comedy legend!tag:live.autographmagazine.com,2014-02-13:3524372:BlogPost:5132202014-02-13T20:50:35.000ZMickohttps://live.autographmagazine.com/profile/Micko

It's with great sadness that I see comedy legend Sid Caesar has passed away today at the age of 91! Like any fans of classic comedy Caesar would always bring a smile to your face. Dig out that copy of 'It's a Mad, Mad, Mad ,Mad World' or Mel Brooks 'Silent Movie' and remember the great man!

Interested in hearing about any gems that people may have picked up whilst scouring the shelves of second hand stores, thrift shops, markets etc. I picked up this Duff McKagan autobiography this week only discover it was signed for 4 Euro ($5) in my local second hand book shop (Sure it's dedicated, but I don't mind!). And a while back a Neil Gaiman - Anansi Boys 1st edition signed book that I discovered for 1 Euro ($1.35). They weren't advertised as signed, just stuck in with other books and…

They weren't advertised as signed, just stuck in with other books and I was delighted to discover them.

I have also picked up a few signed CD over the years; The Zombies (Colin Blumstone and Rod Argent), The Cranberries and Supergrass all for a couple of bucks! I also once bought a Jason and The Scorchers LP and only when I got home did I discover a large signed poster inside by all the original band!!

I'd love to hear any of your stories of that cheap and glorious discovery that you happen upon from time to time...

Here's the Duff and Neil Gaiman books.
