Where else on Earth could you find a more classic and classy show featuring all together the likes of Ed Asner, Julie Newmar, Robert Loggia, Larry Storch, Johnny Crawaford, Elizabeth Shepherd, Jeff Connors, Diana Sowle, Conrad Brooks, Rusty Gilligan, and Margaret O’Brian? Plus some of the original Blob, a drive up of the Batcycle , the Batmobile and so much more from yesteryear!

You’d think you had a time machine attending the 2013 Mid Atlantic Nostalgia Con. The backbones of this incredible blast from our past and all in one show are Martin and Michelle Gramms.

Being able to shoot photos and interview this show’s celebrity guests is such a treat for me and an honor! Plus I am lucky to get around the main areas and take photos of the guests, to photograph the diverse fans, dealers, operators, staff, security, and all who attend this fun filled Shangri-La!

My friend Marty Kircher and I share a booth near the guest’s area This location allows me to be able to shoot photos of the great guest stars that round off a great convention , mingling and signing their own personally autographed item. Many of we fans bring something near and dear to us, a collectable perhaps, that we as collectors will cherish! It is always an incredible thing for me to watch these iconic figures and all around good people that they are, interact with we fans. I get to snap some photos of people getting items signed and some of the conversations make for great photos and stories themselves….I see so much here, no wonder I have my 3D glasses! Huh….ha ha?

Each guest I chatted with and had the honor to interview, were fabulous sitting and conversing with me on camera, and I was lucky to be there and throw a few questions out and let them do their thing!!

All who attend this once in a lifetime, yet, once a year show get lost within it. You see a lot of items not usually at your average genre convention. This one is indeed unique. There are actors portraying Abbott and Costello walking around as they engage the fans with their famous Who’s on First skit, right there in front of you.

So many rare and classic items are found, bought, sold traded and always worth a great story behind them I myself have amassed so many collectables I have at home to show off and tell the tales of these items.

So, what do the guests themselves have to say about this convention? Alot.

Julie Newmar tells me that she loves this show, as she is able to really meet and chat with fans that wait to meet her and collect her hand signed autograph. Julie said she is amazed at what some of these people bring her to have signed. One guy brought a Batcave collectable that came out in 1966 to acquire Julie’s signature on.

The gentlemen that own the reproductions of the Batcycle and Batmobile brought both to the show long enough for myself, and Nostalgia Con personnel to take Julie Newmar outside in front of the hotel for her to lend her signature on both! Julie told me she loved being able to sign the cycle and car. Yes, of course I wanted to drive that Batmobile at 140 MPH, around the area. I can fantasize at least.

Julie also said to me in our interview that she loved the way fans remember her in so many roles and reminisce with her about them.

She tells me one of her favorite things about being Catwoman, was the costume. She could still fit into that I am sure. Julie’s favorite hobby when not working and meeting fans, is gardening. She said at one time her garden was voted the best in her California area.

Ed Asner was my second interview of the weekend and he was awesome. Ed loved teasing fans and hitting us with one liners when you least expected them. I actually helped Ed into the restroom a few times as it was easier for him to traverse the show in a wheelchair. I parked his wheelchair in front of the restroom and walked in with him to assist him if need be. I held his cane and when he walked over to wash his hands, the sensor on the sink would not work, so no water to wash his hands with. He went to three of them before the fourth one spayed out. Someone came walking in at that same time and yelled, “Hey, its Ed Asner, how you doing?” The guy put his hand out for Ed to shake, and Ed said in his gruff Lou Grant voice, “Whaddya thinkin, I got pee all over my hands buddy.” We all laughed. Ed was great with his fans and joked around a lot in his special vein of humor.

Robert Loggia drew a nice crowd and many mentioned his role in Independence Day and The Sopranos.

Johnny Crawford was great with his fans and had stories about being The Rifelman’s acting son who he portrayed.

Jeff Connors showed a few photos of his rather tall family, including his real life father Chuck Connors in many photos he shared with fans he had at his table. Jeff had a rifle with him that they really used in the series, The Rifleman! Incredible.

Elizabeth Sheppard told me how great it was to work with the late great Vincent Price and how awesome it was doing a film with her now well-known genre director, Roger Corman. She also enjoyed the role as the first, Ms. Emma Peel in the Avengers.

Diana Sowle told fun tid bits about being the mom in the 1971 film Willy Wonka. She really enjoyed meeting Ed Asner and Julie Newmar too. It is fun for me to witness and take a few photos of guests meeting some of the other guests! Very fun to see them get together for some chat time.

Margaret O’Brian got to sign some really rare collectables brought in by fans. She was thrilled to see some of these items, such as dolls, posters, one sheets and more.

Conrad Brooks always enjoys spinning his tales for listeners from some of the films he has done, such as the film voted the worst B film of all time, Plan 9 from Outer Space and more.

Larry Storch, being over 90 years old now, is just as fun, quick witted and humorous as ever. He is great interacting with his fan base at this show. He did some fun impressions and voices during his interview with me. He loved being there at Manc!

This year Manc had the time traveling British phone booth known as, the Tardis from the series Doctor Who that people loved to see and get inside to have their photos taken. K9 was there as well. I am sure it is a well made huge prop, because I actually, myself, did not see anyone time traveling over the weekend. But you never know, this is a convention that does cater to the way back when lover.

As privileged as I am to be allowed to snap photos in the guest’s area and interview many of them, I am still just an immense fan myself! It is thrilling to be behind the guests table snapping photos of these stars chatting and sharing anecdotes of their various roles over time with fans. Watching my peers enjoying being in this hotel obtaining rare items from dealers, seeing a little of the gook that was from the original film The Blob, hearing panels, watching films, and listening to some of the guest stars on stage sharing their stories to a crowded full room! It all adds to a wonderful time as always here. Even a local news crew covered this event talking with guests and fans, and they could not get over the feeling in the air shared while attending this particular convention!

So many other stories for me to share that were happening at this show, and maybe I will in another article.

Everyone is always smiling and having a blast every year here at The Mid Atlantic Nostalgia Con. The guest stars have told me after this show they had an incredible time! Plus Saturday evening Martin and Michelle hold a wondrous banquet for their guests and many many fans. What a grand way to end a fascinating and delightful time for this 3 day event!

For me personally, it does take quite a while for me to come back to the here and now, and such is the reality of this post-convention. I am sure it is also the same for many of the guest stars and all those likeminded fans that come from all over to be a part of this show.

Plus, I am truly relieved that the portion of the real Blob that was on display over the weekend, never actually escaped to devour anyone or the entire hotel during this show! Ha ha.

I'd like to thank Martin and Michelle Gramms, Marty, Anye, Karen, Beth, Jessica and so many more!

Hope to see all you regular and many newer Nostalgia Con visitors next year for another trip into the past for a fun filled and amazing 3 days at Manc! I will prep my time machine for it now. Remember to keep watching classic films and TV, and as was always said, please stand by and stay tuned for more. But first, these commercials. That’s all folks!

The term Shore Leave, to many of us could mean taking some time away from your ship as it were. Or, it could mean the Star Trek episode of the same name. Or, it could mean you better prepare yourself for a thrilling adventure for 3 days within the area of Cockeysville, and Hunt Valley Maryland, Earth. August 2013, at the Shore-Leave convention.

Here you will transport in, with whatever means you specifically intend to enter the building you have at your disposal. I drove. Not my shuttlecraft this time but, my own car. So what if it has aliens and spaceships on the back window. I entered the building and stepped into another realm. It surrounded the place too. My video and still camera gear were on my shoulders as I gazed into the lobby walking in.

This hotel lobby was filled with aliens, Time Travelers, Storm Troopers, some androids, some Steampunk, blue people, exotic female’s in wondrous outfits, Starfleet, Stargate, a few creative and perplexing odds and ends, and others as well.

Welcome to Shore-Leave, the local Baltimore, Md. fan run sci-fi and genre convention is one of the best around! This was their 35th year! You can catch up with fellow fans and freinds; check out the dealers rooms, panel talks, art show, costume contest, and guest stars ready to sign for you, and so much more!

The main lineup of guests was impressive. William Shatner, Amanda Tapping, Eddie McClintock, Greg Evigan, Saul Rubinek, Vic Mignogna, Julie Caitland Brown, Brent Spiner and artist Tye Bourdony!

All guests charge a fee for signing and there is a fee if you desire to have yourself in the picture with any given guest at the official Photo-Op session, with a nice background and pose. You can do multiple guests in your photo op as well.

I enjoy covering these conventions, and Shore-Leave does support the Media quite well. My coverage is to obtain a one on one interview with the guests and snapping photos throughout the weekend.

My photography and videographer who partnered up with me this year was Jessica Blitz. She is invaluable. Jessica will videotape my one on one interview with guests while simultaneously snapping still photos all the while.

This year, I was told that William Shatner and Brent Spiner did not wish to do any interviews. Bill Shatner was only there for one day, Saturday, and it was a sold out crowd! He did a stage talk and photo-op session, plus signed for fans.

I am not sure why Brent Spiner, (Data, from Star Trek Next Generation) refused. This is the third time I have seen Brent at various conventions within a few years, and he is a bit strange indeed. He has been an actor in many things and is quite good at acting too, however, the three times I have met him, he was quite bizarre. A few year ago I interviewed Denise Crosby and then hours later Terry Farrell at a show. Brent Spiner said no to an interview at this particular show, yet, when I sat with Denise Crosby, Brent walked over and sat behind us while I was video recording my interview with Denise. He said he just wanted to chat, and began chatting with Denise. Denise actually had to tell Brent she was in the middle of an interview with me. Very weird. Brent did the same thin when I interviewed Terry. Brent looked at me and into my video camera during Terry’s interview and said,oh, hello, and waved and smile then stepped out of camera range. So, yes, Brent Spiner is a bit strange.

Sometimes a guest star will sign the Shore-Leave program guide for free, but Brent asked $40 for anything he put his sharpie on. Still, I respect him and glad he made it to the show. I was always professional around him as I am with all guests! Even though Brent’s personality may need a positronic tuning, ha ha.

I did interview Greg Evigan and Amanda Tapping, and they were awesome. Plus Eddie McClintock and Julie Caitland Brown agreed to do an email interview with me soon. So, I may need to add those as an addendum to this article. Saul Rubinek said no too, but asked for my card when he was heading out on Sunday and told me he may do one via email. We shall see, I like to stay positive.

I was lucky enough to actually meet Bill Shatner, shake his hand and snap a brief photo with him backstage before he walked onstage for his talk and Q&A.

Mr. Shatner had his stage talk at 4pm on Saturday the 3rd. Security allowed me backstage because I told them I needed to snap some photos back there and when Bill Shatner went onstage.

Only a handful of select humans were behind the stage before Bill got back there. When his manager brought him back, he met a few people while I snapped a few pics, and his manager motioned to me to put my camera down after a few minutes, and I obliged.

I did ask about getting a brief and rare one on one photo myself with Mr. Shatner, and Gary, Bill’s manager made it so. My partner Jessica snapped a quick pic and then Bill Shatner shook my hand, and walked up the steps to walk onstage. The photo does show me standing with Bill Shatner, but his expression was, "Ok, another photo op", but I understand, as his mind was focused on his stage talk about to ensue.

I moved to the side of the stage to take a few more photos of Bill Shatner talking to the crowd, and it was a full house indeed. The fans were ecstatic having the great Captain Kirk himself live and in person at Shore-Leave.

Sunday was the final day of the show and I was lucky to have Greg Evigan and then later, Amanda Tapping interview with me.

Greg tells me that while loving being an actor, he was originally music driven! He was in the play Jesus Christ Superstar and Grease. Greg says he loves coming out to conventions and meeting fans. In fact, before my interview, a lady handed him her phone to say hello to her mom on the other end. He says also that just this week of August 8, 2013, he is in a film called Invasion Roswell on Sci-Fi channel. That is tonight for me as I write this. Greg will continue to do conventions and is still producing, so keep your eyes out for upcoming things from him and his musical and acting oriented children. Great guy.

Amanda Tapping was by far one of the sweetest and kindest celebrities I have ever met. She tells me that she was one of thousands who auditioned for Stargate. Then before she knew it, it came down to three of them for her role. She says that the studio had the entire final cast in each of the major three roles, except Richard Dean Anderson who was already chosen to lead, in a room to all begin their final tryouts. And yes, she landed the job as Samantha Carter and was told she had two weeks to move from Toronto to Los Angeles. Amanda tells me she just finished 7 episodes for the show Supernatural; she directed one show of Continuum and has a few films upcoming. Amanda loves directing and acting equally as she has done both many times. She is working heavily in a charity called Sanctuary for Kids.

Shore-Leave is such a fan friendly show, where you see so many things going on in the hotel, as well as hang out with fellow genre buddies to share stories and show off autographed items together.

You can walk into an ongoing panel to listen and contribute your thoughts, plus gaze at the many fans in costume walking around the hotel. Not to mention finding some awesome items in the dealers room. This Convention also offers writing seminars with published authors, an art show, children’s programming, science guests, the Masquerade contest, and a party after hours in their Ten Forward Lounge. There is a room that screens some classic TV sci-fi too in case you need your daily dose.

There are huge telescopes outside to gaze at the Sun during the day and stars at night. Or, perhaps to catch a passing spacecraft or two. Maybe yours. Plus right before you enter the guest stars area, there was the Tardis photo booth, a life-size Dalek, and K9 all from the Doctor Who realm. I may have time traveled myself in there as many times as I shared the booth with friends snapping photos.

All around this convention it seems to buzz. Always something going on at any given time. Plus, just to be able to walk down the celebrity hallway and chat briefly with one of the guest stars while they are at their tables greeting and meeting fans is fun.

Everyone involved with STAT, (Star Trek Association of Towson), does a wonderful job in their specific expertise to put on such an awesome fan run convention!

I thank all the powers that be at STAT and Shore-Leave for allowing me press passes to cover this incredible event, or a weekend journey would sound more fitting. Thanks to you all.

It has been almost a week since the convention, and I, like others , still feel the fervor! I already miss the vibes and zeal of Shore-Leave!

If you were there, you know what I mean. If not, well, I do hope to see you all, humans, aliens and other beings attending next year.

Until then, prepare now for the ultimate in what the Shore-leave Convention will manifest and unveil to us in 2014. Hey, you time travelers just wait, no fair being conveyed into the future to be there right now. You people have to wait like the rest of us.

Until next time……..Beam me up!

Have you ever held in your very own hands, a Jeannie bottle? Yes, a Jeannie bottle from the TV show I Dream of Jeannie. Well it is a fun thing to do. You find yourself opening the top, and even rubbing the sides to see if Jeannie is going to rise out in a puff of smoke.

However, if she does not come out, then perhaps, you are holding in your hands a very rare and unique collectable.

Created by Jeannie bottle maker, Mario Della Casa.

Mario is a guy I met many years ago while attending the Chiller Theater Con in New Jersey. I am a writer and cover these shows to interview celebrities and produce and article or column on it. Mario was at that time offering the unique Jeannie Bottles he was marketing, as well, as being involved with actors Larry Hagman, Barbara Eden and Bill Daily and so many more celebs.

Mario also has created some incredible artwork, and paintings. Many of these are of film stars such as Larry Hagman, Marilyn Monroe and many more.

But let’s reminisce a bit, and go back to Saturday morning daytime TV. A NEW project Mario is doing currently may ring a bell with many of you.

Here is a little tune you may know, and if so, feel free to sing it out loud.

H.R. Pufnstuff, who's your friend when things get rough? H.R. Pufnstuff Can't do a little cause he can't do enough.

Yes, H.R. PuffnStuff. This show aired seventeen episodes and was broadcast from September 6, 1969 to December 27, 1969. It had a huge fan following back then, and still to this day. It is quite funny, nostalgic, and trippy, to view this show as an adult now. And I mean watched by people that are not high as well.

Mario Has been commissioned by the Krofft brothers to create and market none other than, Freddy, the Magical Flute!

I interviewed Mario for this article, and here is that Q & A.

Mark- You are an artist, celebrity manager, marketer of the Jeannie Bottles we all love, and so much more! What got you involved in the field of what you do currently and what were your influences?

Mario- My influence was “LIFE “itself, the changes of this world didn’t just slip by me, and accepted it as “progress” in fact it had an impact on me. I saw little by little, and then chunk by chunk of our innocents being taken away from us, and I felt it was needed to be preserved, (even if in a small way).. I thought to myself how do I reach the people to let them know they are not alone if there are others like me out there that were truly missing the memories of yesteryear?

Mark- Did you grow up always watching many favorite shows on TV?

Mario- I would Danger Danger Will Robinson until my arms would hurt from going up and down and I would put a towel around my head and blink like I had something in both my eyes and bob my head until I got a neck ache!

Mark- You have been commissioned to do your art in many genres, but you are now doing Freddy the Flute art and a gallery line of him from H.R. Puffnstuff. How did this project come about, as I know you have the endorsement from Sid and Marty Krofft?

Mario- Freddy The Magic Flute was born from the wondrous minds of Sid & Marty Krofft, they were very much ahead of their time. Freddy the flute to me was in every way the same as Jeannie’s Bottle. It was something you always wanted, and could never ever get! They once had a plastic Flute that came FREE in a cereal box that now sells for over $300 on eBay, but that just didn’t quite hit the spot. I needed to do with Freddy what I did with Jeannie’s bottle and bring it into existence. Kendra Krofft, (daughter of Marty Krofft) approached me after she had seen a sampling of my Freddy the Magic Golden flute that I put online, and I was invited to meet with her and Marty at CBS. By the time I got there, they did their research on me, and my artwork. The Kroffts understood that my main goal is to successfully continue to bring back the true innocents of yesteryear, and to do so with Class & Elegance.

Mark- I know Larry Hagman recently passed and I was lucky to have interviewed him and Barbara Eden thanks to you. Tell me a little bit about Larry.

Mario- I have been very lucky and so honored to have had actor Larry Hagman in my life. Larry was very much like a Father figure to me in many ways and it was Larry that opened my eyes when it came to making sure that that I showed how uniquely committed I am to assisting those who struggle with the present.

Mark- Tell us about the process of creating a Freddy the Flute.

Mario- Freddy isn’t easy to make at all! In fact it takes a lot to complete just one. He has to be perfect; he has to not only look beautiful, he has to have his face PERFECT. He also has to have the beautiful crystals set in the exact location as the original to give his the original look, and he has to PLAY. To create perfect artwork is difficult by itself, but to make it “functional” requires many extra-dedicated hours!

Here are a few testimonials from some famous people about Mario and his works.

Ian Zering said “Mario Della Casa is an amazing Artist and I own several pieces of his artwork. HR PuffinStuf was a childhood favorite of mine and Freddie the Flute is an awesome keepsake! You seriously need to start a Mario Della Casa Collection!"

From Barbara Eden and her husband "We have known Mario for a number of years initially due to his well known 'Jeannie Bottles' . His very professional reproductions of the Jeannie Bottles are complemented by his artistic talent evidenced in his varied works including jewelry design, paintings, murals etc. He has a special talent, he is a Good Friend and we love his work. Barbara Eden and Jon Eicholtz"

Celebrity Manager Karen Cadle tell us,

"For several years now, I have worked alongside Mario Della Casa and have constantly been amazed and moved by his art. His versatility and understanding of his subjects is evident in his remarkable technique. Being that Barbara Eden is a client of mine, I have personally seen the reaction of the world to his "Jeannie" bottles and am very impressed by the integrity and beauty of every piece. I am also honored that he has also painted a portrait of me. It is as special to me as the talent of this master artist."

Mario also tells me that he is honored that his art is now coveted by the very community he endeavors to memorialize, to name a few, are Valerie Harper, Pamela Anderson, Barbara Eden, Larry Hagman, Charlene Tilton, Renee Taylor, Linda Blair, Kate Mulgrew, Penny Marshal and Cindy Williams are among those that own or have his work. Aaron Spelling, Laurence Fishburne and the Museum of Television’s James Comisar , Davis W. Streets and other Hollywood notables have my artwork.

Mario is quite talented, and his works are great.

I just wonder, did Jeannie blink her eyes and help Mario in his talents and projects, or did Mario just rely on Freddy the Flutes magic powers, we shall never know!!

The Chiller Theatre Convention is filled with celebrities, musicians, artists, wrestlers, models, zombies, monsters, vampires and so much more. The celebrity guests are all usually, human, mostly. This is a three day event, twice a year, to which I happily attended the Sunday show on April 28, 2013. My friend Anthony and I drove up to NJ to spend a few incredible hours at Chiller from Baltimore. I thank Kevin and Eddie who allow me Press passes to cover the event!

This foray of guests of all venues, genres, film, TV, and other worldly and non-worldly celebrities all gather to meet and greet and sign. They sign in their own unique way and all have wonderful stories to share for fans. That is what makes acquiring their signature so special to us, well one of the many reasons!

I have attended Chiller to cover the event for at least a dozen plus year now. What happens at Chiller…..stays, well you know.

So, unfortunately I missed the first two days of this event. However, because I had to leave my own shuttlecraft at home, my friend Anthony agreed to drive and shoot my video and stills for me, as my goal is always to interview as many guest stars as I can covering the show. I had a few other friends already there in NJ to assist me as well.

I was able to interview a few really great guests, and if I would have had more time, yes, double the amount for sure. After about 3 hours, plus, we walked into the hotel.

Ahhhhhh, the room was filled with fans, and guest stars and many assorted creatures walking around the place. My kinda space, as it were. We met up with friends, Karen, Judy, Rick and George, who had been there since Friday. They were now part of this realm within the convention, until sundown that is. Now, my mission, to interviews with some of the awesome actors and artists in their own fields, to boldly try to ask what no one has asked before.

When I attend a show just for one day, there is a lot of running from guest to guest, room to room, and try to get an interview with them. This is more or less commando coverage for me. When a guest tells me, YES, to doing an interview with me, sometimes it may not happen right away. I could change that, but my time machine is in need of repairs.

I always respect the fact that the reason a guest is there, is to meet and greet and sign for a fan. Plus this is a way for the guest to make funds. So, I don’t wish to interrupt this process.

With the hundreds and hundreds of interviews I have done over the years, I have this almost down to a science. Almost. If a guest tells me they want to interview right there, right now at their signing booth, it takes me a couple short minutes to set of my camera gear and microphone, video and still. Then I sit down and we are off!

Because I know about these guests at any given convention, and mostly what work they have done, or from or TV they have been in, my interviews are, for me, the easy part. I still will do a bit of research, on a guest star if I know I may get to interview them. After all, I am NOT a computer, nor a cyborg. My memory is that of a human. So what if I look like a cross between an Ewok and a Smurf.

I let them know beforehand, they will enjoy the interview, and that I am not like the paparazzi. I tell them I am a fan myself. Then after the interview, I will obtain an autographed item from each guest, and/or ask them to sign a few items I brought myself.

Most all guests are happy to do this for me. And, that rare hand signed in person signature is always one the main reasons to enjoy meeting a celebrity indeed.

So here I am following my friends that already cased the joint for me Friday and Saturday. OK, sorry, slang, whaddya want?!

First celebrity grand room is filled with guests, and many many fans. It takes a while to approach each guest that I want to interview. I was able to secure a few interviews, but timing them with each guest, now there is the conundrum.

OK, here are the guests I was able to sit and interview. John Amos, Tia Carrere, James Tolkan, Erika Eliniak, Butch Patrick, and two from The Walking Dead. Theodus Crane and Travis Love.

Here are a few tid bits form my interviews with these guests I did very recently.

Tia Carrere tells me she was actually discovered in a grocery store called The Food Pantry in Waikiki HI. Her first film was Aloha Summer, then she moved to LA and got General Hospital, MacGyver and the rest is history for her! She just really wanted to be a singer and not an actress. She was part of the Wayne’s World film anniversary this year as well.

James Tolkan, tells me he loved acting and really got into his role as Mr. Strickland in Back to the Future because the writers were great. James love to spends time with his Corgi’s and he rides bikes and runs all the time to stay in shape.

Both actors from The Walking Dead, Theodus Crane and Travis Love told me they were blessed and in the right place at the right time for their roles in this awesome Zombie TV series. Keep watching their names; they have many projects due soon.

Butch Patrick shared with me how awesome it was being a young actor working with the stars he worked with. His first role was the premier of the first episode of General Hospital in 1961. He has a scrapbook he is doing on the Munster’s due out next year.

Erika Eleniak tells me she began at age 10 in training films and the like. She also said the old alumni from the show Baywatch may have something in the works.

John Amos was quite a great interview for me. He enlightened me about his role in Good Times and Mary Tyler Moore Show and films he was in. The funniest anecdote he shared was that when we was in Two and a Half Men as Charlie’s girlfriends fathers gay partner, he said that actor Stacy Keach who played his partner, had to huddle behind him in a scene and stay that way even when the crew yelled, cut to reset the shot. John says that Stacy joked that if he had to stay there huddled behind John much longer, he would soon definitely sport a woody.

The Chiller Theatre Con is always fantastic, and I look forward to attending their next show around Halloween.

Just remember if you attend this show, please bring some garlic, a cross, some Holy water, a stake, and anything else you wish to pack, just in case you run into the many vast assortments of creatures walking about the place.

Do not ask them if they are real. You may snap a few photos, then walk away, slowly.

Ok, I have to try to find someone to help me repair my time machine now, so I have to go. See you at a genre convention soon, as we gather there as fans to meet the guests, collect their autographed items and hang with like-minded people. Yes, and like-minded creatures, monsters and our otherwise non-human acquaintances. See you soon, or tomorrow or yesterday, depending when I get this time machine I acquired repaired. Peace.

The incredible classic and
unique Mid Atlantic Nostalgia Convention, or MANC as it is called, landed back
in Baltimore for 2011, and what a show it was indeed!

However, you are not allowed
to call it MANC, unless you have attended!

Martin Grams has this passion
to take our love of nostalgic television, and films, actors and actresses, science fiction, artists, dealers, collectors, autograph seekers, fans from here
and out of this realm as well, and allows us to meet celebrities of yesteryear,
and chat with them, snap photos, and get that hand singed autograph. Martin has
penned many books in this genre, and is a fine published author in this area.

So many of us enjoy meeting
and reacquainting with fellow genre attendees and nostalgia buffs of all ages
races, and various home worlds!

Conversations of the most
sublime and true to a classic yet upbeat
rhythm , as only we at this “Con” can understand and talk about those
glorious TV shows from the late 50’s to yesterday’s gone by.

And, yet with all this…….you
still have the guest star celebrities there to get up close and converse with,
after all these years. Too cool, gee wizzzz, and golly, I can’t wait to get
their autograph!!!!

These guests I am about to
list for your viewing pleasure, you are sure to remember, and to get a chance
to actually meet them, too cool! I mean, far out.

This September the convention
featured, Patty Duke, Tony Dow, Davy Jones, Michael Constantine, Billy Gray,
Lauren Chapin, Jimmy Hunt, Charles Herbert, Ed Nelson, Jim Rosin, Mark
Redfield, Conrad Brooks, Larry Storch and Karen Valentine!

Incredible line up, I know!!
These guests had so many fans at their signing tables to chat as we remember
their roles they portrayed. Yes yes, these guest stars also signed tons of
autographs. For a reasonable fee, you could talk and then have an item that a
guest was selling on their table or bring some collectable you owned to be hand
signed in person by them, and snap a photo of you standing with them to show
off your new autographed item!

All guests were asking about
the same fee, however, Davy Jones on the
other hand signed for FREE, if you brought your own item, and charged a nominal
fee if you purchased one at his table!

I was lucky myself to be one
of the photographers for this event, and I snapped some really cool photos, of
fans, guest stars, dealers, and all around fan fun! Plus I was able to have a
dealers table and shared this space selling some of my own collectables with my
buddy Marty who was selling some great full size movie posters and more. I
offered a diverse variety of stuff, like Star Trek collector plates, models,
nostalgic toys, autographs and more.

Other dealers were selling so
many nostalgia items and collectables, such as rare and unique classic films
and TV shows on DVD, toys, photo’s, posters, classic magazines and books, and
any almost anything you could think of in this realm.

There was an awesome display
put out at a huge table of Buck Rogers items by a group called The Solar Guard
Fan Club and The Radio and Television Museum of Baltimore. There were Buck Rogers
memorabilia out to see such as some early Pulp magazines to ray guns to
advertising artifacts pages from the 1930’s comic book and much more. Glad this
display was encased, it would not be good to have anyone grab that Buck Rogers
ray gun and start shooting, and no one really wants to clean up after the room
is sprayed with lethal reddish emissions with its lighting effects and laser
beam spread all over everything.

Also here at this show is a
group called Radio Once More, which broadcasts the best in old time radio and
nostalgia via the internet and pod casting. Mid Atlantic Nostalgia Con also
promotes such groups as the National Capital Radio and Television Museum in Bowie Maryland, The Metro
Washington Old Time radio Club The Theatre Preservation Society, and more.

Often times at this
incredible convention, you see many like-minded old friends and fellow fans. Every
year at this show I see a family of six, a father, mother and four kids ages 17
down to 8 that come all the way from Vancouver Canada to attend and meet the
guest stars and filter throughout the weekend’s events. They attend all the
guest stars stage talks, visit them at their booth to chat and purchase their
hand signed autographs and revel in this fun filled arena. This family is
starting their young ones early into appreciating the art of meeting TV and
film icons, and collecting that hand signed item. What a great investment as
well, there is part of that college fund.

I actually bonded with one of
the weekend’s guests, one Davy Jones from the Monkees. I helped him and his
assistant Johnny Blair, musician himself and singer at large, with various
things. I also helped Davy and Johnny load up their car when they left and Davy
Jones wrote down his address and cell number for me to stay in touch!

During the 2 days David Jones
was there, he wound up doodling on the table cloth that covered his signing
table, and it was quite a wild looking doodle and he actually signed his name
through the center of it. Well, this is quite a rare work of art to have a
guest doodle a huge square box and within it draw things that I assume were a
flower on a stem, two heads, and one looked like a rabbit and a weird looking
triangle shape with some science fictional type of doodle in that, and then
Davy did some swirly squiggly lines all over the boxes’ border.

Well, at the time where Davy
was packing up to leave, I asked him if he were going to take the table cloth
off the table and keep his large doodle he created throughout his two days there, and he said not at all.
Many other fans were eyeballing this too, so as a huge collector, seeing this
hand drawn doodle done by Davy Jones of the Monkees on a table cloth covering
his autograph table, I did what any good collector of a rare find like this
would do, and I took out a pocket knife, and whipped it open and cut out the
entire diagramed doodle and asked Davy to hold it up in front of him where I
snapped a photo of that scene with my camera. Many other fans approached me and
said they were really hoping to keep that prized tablecloth, but you have to be
very fast and I was! Yet another fascinating hand drawn and signed item to add
to my own personal collection!

I actually took well over
1000 photographs of convention happenings throughout these grand three days.
Even the guests really wanted to pose with the other fellow guests, and I was happy
to oblige them.

The guest stars here really
gave some great trivia and stories at their stage talk panels. The room was
filled with fans while every group of guests that was at their own particular
panel talk shared some incredible stories!

I will feature some excerpts
from my one on one celebrity interviews I received at this show soon, as these
guest stars shared some incredibly fascinating info with me!

I will say that Davy Jones
told me he loved being in the play The Artful Dodger recently, while Billy Gray
showed me and talked about one of quite a few inventions, such as a new unique
guitar pic he had created. Tony Dow tells me he is very comfy being behind the
scenes and the camera in a more creative mode. Jimmy Hunt said to me how much
it amazes him when fans show him photos and other collectables with him in them
that he did not know existed.

Charles Herbert admitted he
was a bit scared when he saw the monster from his film Colossus of New York. Karen
Valentine and Michael Constantine chatted about their working together on Room
222, and more individual remembrances of their early careers. Patty Duke had a TV
set with some of her classic TV and films running in front of her booth and
often times walked out from behind her signing table to watch some scenes as
she told me a few interesting tid bits from each one being shown. It is so fun
for me to be able to interview these iconic stars; you never know what they may
offer up to hear.

At the end of all the
outstanding times shared at this convention by guest stars, staff, fans, media,
dealers, and everyone able to attend, Martin put on a Banquet, for fans with
guest stars at each table!

Fans and guests got to relax
and let their hair down to chat and eat a great catered meal. Then there was
some on stage fun with the celebrities and a few appreciation awards for the
guest stars as well.

All in all this particular convention
boasts some awesome and classic genre celebrities we all get to meet and also acquire
their signatures, first hand as it were.
We share a ton of fun and reminiscing with fellow fans while we spend the
weekend away from the outside world and get to enjoy this world of nostalgia!

Be sure to prepare for next
years Mid Atlantic Nostalgia Con, and I look forward to seeing you all there
interacting with fellow fans and dabbling in conversations with those awesome television
and film stars we all remember from yesteryear! Until then, Hi-Ho Silver, and Up
Up and awaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy. OK, had to get those in, ha ha.

http://www.midatlanticnostalgiaconvention.com/

Here is Davy Jones from the Monkees who asked me to snap a pic with other gust Patty Duke!

Also after interviewing Billy Gray, he signed an item I took with me from The Day the Earth Stood Still signed a few months earlier by late actress Patricia Neal for me! Now both signatures on one item. Too cool.

Ator Leslie Nielsen passed away today!

I met him this year at a convention , but could not interview him as his autograph line was so long! He did , however, allow me 3 minutes to sign a few items for me and snap a photo op!

He will be missed. He was a great guy and awesome actor.
