PSA Authenticates Forged Mickey Mantle Photo--Unbelieveable!!!!

When I first observed the below forged Mickey Mantle photo I did a double-take.

As you can see, it was authenticated by PSA on May 7th, 2025.

I then did a PSA Cert-Check to confirm that PSA did indeed authenticate the below "Mantle."

It is a valid LOA.

The employee who "authenticated" that "Mantle," has, in my opinion, no business being in that position.

There's absolutely no excuse for this.

I have been a supporter of the TPA's over the last twenty-five years, but there is no excuse for this.   This is a forgery that should have been opined in one second as "Not Authentic."

This is a common forgery-style that I have observed hundreds of times.

Sadly, not unbelievable.

Nothing should surprise the collecting community with their authentication work:

Eddy, I read that Houdini blog.   Sloppy work by PSA.

The seller did take it down.

The seller of the forged Mantle certed by PSA also took down their auction.

That's good to know.  What happens in cases like this I wonder.  If a seller goes back to PSA, is the item "decertified"?

I'm fairly certain that collectors contact them and guide them to the blog (in most cases).

It's a sad situation that these companies have hamstrung the hobby so severely.

So many examples we've seen of good items getting rejected with blatant forgeries passed and subsequently commanding big money because they've been "authenticated".

Nicely done, Chris. I posted about this “Gem Mint 10” Paul McCartney SoCal forgery quite some time ago. It was authenticated in 2018 though.

this is a real black eye for PSA, because the one area that the "big three" always got right were Mantles.  This really damages the confidence level, at least in PSA.

I’d like to say I’m shocked, but I’m not.  There are always a few that we can discuss, they are so close that we can see certain parts that may be worthy.  But this is so blatantly bad, there would be no discussion amongst anybody other than the fool that gave this the green light.

wow, that is bad and I didnt even know who Mantle was when I joined AML

You’d never seen a Mantle piece?
