I started this thread to gather information on Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett signatures to hopefully determine just how rare or common he is to collect.

As well as hopefully determine current market values.

This first came on the market in 2002 at around 495GBP

In 2012 it was valued at 2000GBP

Maybe in 2017 3500GBP is not such a bad deal to some but I think it's still too high.

2 have sold in the last few months for around £1800 (I don't have links).  I had one which sold for approx £2000 a couple of years ago.  So around that price seems to be approx market value for these books.

Thanks Nate

Funny I was just looking at an expired ebay UK listing for last month that was at 2200GBP and did not sell. Then relisted at 2000GBP and again did not sell. So it seems the market value is in fact the 2000GBP range or less now.

if i was still in nyc i would just ask mick personaly  the story.

i know the sigs are real and i know mick.

my guess is he flew out and had them the signed or or rep had them signed out there from the book company as there located near were syd lived.

its pretty easy and common

pss there called book plates

psss, what i understand i dont belive syd really signed for fans later on. im sure the family is just saying that so it sounds goods.

but if u went to his flat and asked he didnt do it from what i undrestand for a good part of his later life.

that's a fantastic response john and thanks for commenting and shedding light on the book plate signings.

I too have heard through the decades that Syd did not sign items for people at the door. In fact, I heard he wouldn't even answer the door. It's my understanding that he almost only talked to family members. Of course I don't know much of his reclusive life, but story's tend to trickle through.

And his family reports otherwise as well. Is this true? As John says - ?

what are you asking?

That he actually did not really sign much at the door later as John suggested (his friend that went there etc) - that the family has exaggerated/embellished. This will impact the frequency on non-book sigs.

yes i belive his family put him in the best light and said he signed if u asked at his flat or on the sstreet.

but common there just protecting his image

u are correct he didnt answer the door and was a recluse

also look at it like this autograph collecting really picked up late 80s early 90s.

everyone would have gone, imagine being to go to claptons door or jaggers door and just knock and have him walk out and sign. you know it didnt happen

if he really dd sign at his flat or when he went out for a 10 or 15 year period there would be such a flood of syd signed stuff especialy in sharpie as thats whats was being used now and theres not.

Right John; you and Shawn are compiling some very good information here.

John

That's a great point you made about signed stuff w/ sharpie's. In fact I have only seen one sharpie signature of Barrett.

And here it is. Anyone into Syd knows how unusual and rare this is.

Plus when that "creeper" footage surfaced all over youtube many years ago, the guy knocked on Syd's door and said he got an autograph on a map. That signature has NEVER been seen. And it was later stated that although Syd appreciates his fans... he just wants to be left alone. And I believe most people did respect his wishes. It's been 11 yrs since he's died and no sharpie sigs have surfaced other than this one I posted. In fact, I believe nothing has surfaced from around 1975ish to present, other than the Cheffin's items and Mick Rock books. Everything else is mostly pre-1975. I'm just using 1975 as a reference point and not to be taken completely literally.
