Interesting discussion guys.  Here's a close-up if that helps.

Gilmour playing leftie? Roger on the left? That is backwards Shawn! ;)

Seamus said no screen until 1974, which I can see online, so what is that above the stage then in either photo?

That shirt Gilmour has on might also help yield a date - that star (in the b/w Shawn posted).

The Kent State t-shirt Gilmour is wearing puts Shawn's photo to 1973 it seems - perhaps that is simply not a screen then in the b/w photo which seems to be of the same stage set? I wonder if the either image is showing us Earls Court?

Here is a different photo which appears to show the same stage and object in question in different lighting - is it flat?:

I think it's a globe of the Moon

Makes sense since '73 was Dark Side of the Moon LP

I had considered a large balloon but was not sure if it was indeed spherical and not flat. However, it is indeed a large balloon used very effectively (seen head-on anyway):

I found the original letter from the father of the Chris to whom this was inscribed.  He cites the date as late 1973 or early 1974.  So that would seem to fit.  The father was actively engaged in supporting a political candidate who had a close relative working for the band at the time.  Knowing that "Chris" was a big fan, the candidate, through his relative, got the page signed.  Pretty cool history.

It's, by far and away, the most interesting Pink Floyd piece I have ever seen.

Yes, this is essentially a signed photo of a DSOTM performance - monster!
