Tim,

The URLs on eBay call the photos proof:

In fact, the listing titles call them proof, too:

So am I getting this? The seller is offering good, authentic autographs but is going out a finding someone else's photos of the artist signing autographs in public and saying this is his proof? Why would anyone need or want to do that? Does a picture actually add to the value of a genuine example?

NJBC did the same thing. Was offering a signed Brian Wilson Pet Sound with a Beckett COA. He stole my photos and put them on his listing as proof.

Even though they weren't even proof shots. So yeah...These guys will do anything for a sale.

No need for your "sorry that it happened to me" Did you even read Joe W's question above?

(Why would anyone need or want to do that? Does a picture actually add to the value of a genuine example?)

My response was to him Mr. Defensive. My answer was showing IT HAPPENS. I have proof of it, and even posted a discussion documenting it. Sure it is a different seller, but "proof" photos are indeed used to give a false sense of comfort. Especially if all it is showing is you met someone once or in like the case I described wasn't even their photo to begin with!

I think you are better off having your "friend" defend himself as you come off very manic and ultra defensive.

Autographs99 obviously doesn't want folks using their pictures as proof photo's which is why they put stickers over them.  They should respect this with other people's photos as well. Just my thoughts.

I've seen a grip of autograph99's signatures and believe all I've seen are good sigs. Not questioning any of the signatures.

Tim,

It's illegal to use someone's copyrighted photos without their permission, except under fair use laws, and the copyright doesn't have to be registered. The person who owns a photo has the copyright automatically.

Tim, they really wouldn't need to if they were selling just to knowledable collectors. The autographs speak for themselves.

IP dealers selling on EBAY unfortunately are dealing with less experienced collectors and emotional buyers. Without proof photo's even if they have little value are sometimes what's need to close these types of buyers on the Bay.

To make it clear, I don't know about these particular photos. I know what has been reported here and what the owner of photographs Autograph99 used told me.

To me, photos of a celebrity signing autographs is just another selling gimmick. TPA certs is another form. It still comes down to the ink on the paper, etc. I am a firm believer that a genuine signature will eventually sell itself. Unless, of course, it's a poor example.

You are asking all these questions about it. Needing evidence. Have you even asked Autographs99 if this happened?

Just curious.

Tim, this discussion is why I have basically left the hobby. If we are talking about autos99, then we have left the ranch.

People are petty and jealous.

I don't know any other explanation.

I had a guy tell me that if I didnt show a pic of something I discussed, that meant the item was fake.

These people are negative nellies, focusing on stupid things like proof photos.

Here is what I will tell you: autos99 has the best stuff, the most authentic stuff, he is successful, and people get mad because he wants fair market value instead of selling to these "collectors" cheap so they can go make money themselves.

Honestly, Tim, you're too good for this board, let them talk about Mickey Mantle and Chewbacca, you don't need to be here.

They will go crazy over a Floyd the Barber signed photo or Alan Rickman dressed in wizard garb, but show them something worthwhile and they just sit there silent, in jealousy.
