Hello,

I purchased an autographed Madonna Vanity Fair magazine cover from the Erotica era. It comes with the JSA LOA but  I was just wonder what your opinions on it are and if you could possibly send examples of your Madonna’s so I can compare them! I have been comparing her signatures all day and would say it’s 110% authentic but I love second opinions!

"In person" can be a hard concept to graph...uh...grasp. ;)

Bjarne,

My keen eye for detail and analysis tells me that this may be a Madonna that you got yourself.

I messaged the seller this morning and told him it’s fake. He never responded but he just accepted my return request. I have. Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Tom Holland, Annette Funicello and a few other that were all done with JSA. I’m worried about those now.. did JSA just turn to S*IT?? Are they at all reputable??

They are just a a THIRD PARTY SERVICE...and charge like $50/ $75 per appraisel….you are better buying / bidding on a charity auction or a seller who is known to only deal in real items.....95% of the ones on ebay are fake.....for a quality real Madonna you are looking to pay around $750/$1000 + NOW ESP IF Full vintage sig.........all these $100/$200 buy it nows are usually fake....and the $400/$600 buy it nows are usually a fake with a $75 certificate from psa/dna….THATS REALLY IS THE BOTTOM LINE IN 2018 !...If u are gonna buy a Madonna.....spend good money on a good vintage one....save and pay the money..u will have piece of mind nd a real signature..and the quality ones will only go up in value

Kamran,

Be careful recommending charity auctions unless you can be absolutely sure the celebrity donated the autograph. Most of those are hotbeds of forgeries. I know only a few legit companies that specialize in supplying charities, and they aren't the big ones.

Steve...I meant the charity itself holding the auction..like the Grammy foundation....or in Madonna's case  RAISING MALAWI....You usually have to bid more - but the paperwork..provenance is 100% and they will even give  you a personalised letter confirming your win on their letterhead...

Yes, I agree. Thank you for clarifying that.

Most people think that if a major charity is auctioning memorabilia it must be real. It's a horrible situation.

I’ve often heard people say that PSA and JSA are far better with sports autographs, especially baseball.  Some people have joked that maybe they should stick with sports autographs.  However, it’s not like they get all celebrity autographs wrong.  They do get many right as well, but you also have to be cautious and do your research.  I feel like they both at times just give a rubber stamp to big clients.

I used to have a two different Paul McCartney autographs that were authentic ated by JSA, and they were in fact real.  So they do get them right...at least sometimes.

What’s really bad is when they reject real autographs that we “commoners” send in.

Yes. This is the one that her personal assistant took up on the room together with the hotel guest book and a few other things. (On record for a friend and a letter from a wedding couple that was staying at the hotel.)

So they didn’t take a lot of things from collectors. And the assistant had seen me and my friend at the hotel for 4 days straight.

Well, this is a lesson learned. Don’t trust anybody! Lol

Sorry to hear it....but it was a case of business as usual in Madonnaworld….during filming of Evita...many many extra waiting for hours and hours...her PA took all the items..and were told to come back tomorrow....everyone got their signed items back signed and dedicated!!!!  each was done by her then PA.....Madonna was heavily pregnant at the time too...think about it!!!...…...The hotel guestbook was prob signed by Madonna....but all the fan itesm were NOT EVEN HANDED to Madonna !!!  Trust me!!!!

Kamran’s Madonna knowledge is obviously unsurpassed.  But even he says he’s very good with Madonna and Marilyn Monroe, and that’s where his expertise exists.  So my question is this: how can third-party authenticators possibly be “experts” with hundreds of different celebrity autographs?  Answer:  THEY CAN’T!  It takes a lot of time and effort to become an “expert” in just one celebrity autograph.  So expertise in hundreds is a ridiculous idea!  That’s why blindly relying on TPA LOAs is ridiculous too.  They carry far too much weight in the hobby.  And their perceived expertise can lead to hundreds or maybe even thousands of fake autographs being passed around as authentic in the hobby.

Yes true.....but a lot of the times these certificates are required because someone is going to sell it on....even if they got the items signed in person without photo proof many people will not buy a signed item from just anyone....hench you get these third party services.....of course these people who run these services should be transparent and EXPERTS OF THEIR FIELDS...no doubt
