I'm pretty sure this is secretarial. If it's not, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I think it's safe to say authentic

hope you can make a sweet deal on it

I wonder if it is a lesser known/scarcer Hurrell Crawford image - that could change things a bit. I do not see it among the others from that shoot for example. I don't think it is that beat up...to me it is evocative, vintage and full of the qualities I like to write about.

Hi Rahat!

I agree. Although there have been a couple of forum responses saying the condition is good, I thought it quite beat-up.  The fact the seller made it a point saying that properly framed in a room with regular light, etc, the photo would look great, made me think the condition was probably worse than what could be shown in a photo.

The thing that makes negotiating a price difficult is that the piece belonged to his late mother.  I'm with you on the price. Thanks for your response. Garrett

Not "good" - acceptable and with the right framing and so on...price is correct. I think the first photo is overdoing the silvered/bloom appearance with glare, although the dark areas are usually where this happens most - and matte paper seems to offer more surface area for the reaction. With the right matte, frame, a touch of restoration...a well priced/affordable Hurrell/Crawford presentation with positive eye appeal may well be at hand.

Call me a gambler but I picked this one up. I think, with some TLC, this can become a decent looking photo. It's definitely worth a try.

Delighted you were able to get the Crawford at a good price. By all means, please post a pic of the finished product.

take care

Thanks, Garrett. Glad you brought it up here or I would not have noticed it. Once you decided you wasn't chasing it, I jumped in. Figured if you wanted it I could still let you have it at my cost.

Anyway, I believe there is a member here that will do the kind of restoration this photo needs without over doing it. Not many Hurrell signed Crawford photos are still around. Hopefully this one will be for generations to come.

This is beautiful Joe. I have never laid eyes on this image of Joan Crawford before and I have a seen a lot. I have book with a lot of Hurrells in it mostly of Joan. Just for the image alone, it's so art deco! but signed too. It's very charming.

It certainly caught my attention. I've seen so many Joan signed photos over the years and never this one. I couldn't resist and think, with a little TLC, this one will look just dandy!

I just love finding something unique! I owe the credit to Garrett on this one. He brought it to our attention. Once he passed and knew I had to make a move.

Here is the what the photo looked like in it's prime.

Ah, so you did find the image somewhere. Well, it's a lovely one of her, rather reflective instead of the femme fatale look she perfected. And I like where and how she has signed, artfully to compliment the image.

I can't figure out if that is a giant bowl Joan is in. Any ideas?

as always

Garrett
