Is SCD a trade publication?

Yes, Paul. SCD is Sports Collectors Digest. It's a newsprint periodical that was hundreds of pages every 2 weeks until about 10 years ago. It's still around but much smaller:

Hi Steve,

I am sorry too...I just got the results today...9 total items....not shocking to hear SCD knew....I cannot believe after all these years, they are still open and this continues....

Rick,

Hopefully their luck will run out someday. You must have spent $700+ to have them all examined, which makes it hurt even more.

Yes it was closed to a $1000...here are some pics of the letters

Rick, it was a different world back in the 90's. I certainly understand how you became a victim. Access to information was not as it is today. But, with everyone now able to do a quick Google search and not see warning alarms I have less compassion for.

Law enforcement is not going to do anything about this type of crime. They do not have the resources, both financial and manpower, to effectively build a case.

The only way to close these operations down is public awareness. That is equally difficult is because it is not a hot enough button to draw a mass audience or profits to news organizations.

I, for the life of me, do not understand why people are so ignorantly willing to spend their hard earned money on something they know nothing about. There will always be someone out there to take a fool's money.

This will only stop when people stop supporting them.

Joe, well written.

One of the primary reasons why Ebay is one of the biggest outlets for forgeries is because Ebay is so populated with delusional autograph collectors and impulse buyers and the sellers of forgeries know that and prey on that.

The forgery industry is huge because 80% of those that buy autographs do not know autographs and don't bother doing any type of research.

People who buy autographs (forgeries) on Ebay think that Ebay filters out forgeries, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Thanks, Christopher. I also know how much effort you put into trying to raise awareness. I salute you as well.
