Hi Steve

I am sure both of those above, the green writing on the photo is real and of course, the dedication to the stand-in is real. But gee, I need to take it a little slower, though I had checked out the stand-in one before.

The signature on the postcard too. It looks bad, but it's real (imo). So the signature being on the back of a postcard is quite big isn't it? My signing is big, a little over 3 inches across. The guy still owns the postcard then?

The other thing (now) I think is off, also about the photo the bad signing was on. It would not have been issued by the studio because it is actually an unflattering shot of Monroe, one eye is wincing, not a great smile, it's not a good photo of her. Fox wouldn't have put that one forward for signing to fans. She herself would not have wanted to sign that photo. She was fussy and nixed any photos she didn't like of herself.

That one you found is much more commonly used and is a great photo.

I wish I knew more signatures like I have a feel for MM, Babe Ruth, and a handful of others that I've spent God only know how much time studying and analyzing! You get to a point that the coordinates of the signature and their trajectories jump off the page at you like in the Matrix, as though you're seeing it in code. The visual referencing transcends exemplars. There's not many that I have that level of familiarity with, it's rare when you can lock in like that.

To me, the third one has the typical vibe. A forger would have to write that second "M" for years, and only that second "M" to produce a flawless 'M' that distinctively MM. As well as the rest of it all lining up harmoniously.

I can't even guess how even the most skilled of MM authenticating technicians could opine on that second photo, I could never get past 50/50 on that.

The first one fares better than the second, but that's no easy layup at any rate! Looks like a fly by sig, loosely holding the end of the pen in one hand and the unsupported photo in the other.

Steve, do you know who the authenticator was on this?

Woody,

Those three are from the Kuflik collection. David Kuflik's father and aunt collected autograph in person in New York from the early 40s, maybe late 30s, into the 70s, into 80s and 90s. Not as much from 70s on.

His aunt had a log of every autograph they got. He inherited the collection, sold a lot thru RR and I believe he's selling some himself now.

There has never been a question on any they got in person. They got a small amount by fan mail and some of those are not real.

RR had PSA/DNA or Beckett authenticate them for the several auctions his autographs were in.

RR and PSA must have had to conduct a séance to authenticate the one in the middle. lol   To me, if I signed my name like that, unless I remembered the event and the photo, I might think I didn't sign it!

I imagine that their authentication of that was based 95% on its impeccable provenance and 5% on the signature itself.

I am learning more about MM

This has been a learning experience thread

And I must say to Pauline.... I still consider you my go to gal over anyone else on MM
Hope that helps ease your mind
You made an error.... well.... damn..... WE ALL DOOOOOO

Cheers

To Woody
Take it easy man
There's no need for that kind of aggressive behavior here towards a very upstanding member

I might deserve a tongue lashing once in awhile, but Pauline doesn't

Be cool man

Thanks Goodcat.

In summary, I was rash. I will be more careful because of this. I second guess myself more now. I didn't do the necessary work, to look carefully, and it kicked my butt.

It was a late night thing, looking at that signature. Sometimes I do (other) work at night, contracts and invoices, and I wake in the morning and I have dates and things messed up when I review what I did and have a "doh" moment. Lucky I don't send them at night.

It's all good my friend

School and self expansion is never out

Have a great night

You may call me Shawn on here (goodcat is not my real name hahaa) ;-)

I’ve been doing far too much self expansion, Goodcat. I need to go back on my diet.

BAAAAHAHAHHA

you need to go on tour with your humor

Can I have your autograph?

I actually laughed out loud when I read that, about goodcat not being your real name!
