Need some advice on a one of a kind autographed baseball

Hello Everyone, I am looking for some advice on an autographed baseball that my late father has left to me. I believe it to be the only one in existence with these exact signatures on it.

My father had it signed in person at Yankee Stadium when he and his father took him to the game.

I am looking for advice as to where to take the ball to have it authenticated with a COA. There is no question in my mind that the autographs are real as my Grandfather was friends with some of the Yankees players at the time which made it easy to get the signatures in person at the game.

The autographs on the ball are as follows: Thurman Munson, Mickey Mantle, Allie Reynolds, Phil Rizzuto, Billy Martin, Elston Howard, George Steinbrenner, Chuck Healy (NY television sportscaster).

So, where should I take the ball to get the COA done? I am very weary of shipping the ball as there is the possibility that it could get lost, etc. I would rather not let it out of my possession.

Also, anyone on here have any type of a guess as to what the ball would sell for IF I were to sell it or where to take it to sell it ? Auction, etc ?

I think in order to receive the advice you seek you need to show many good clear photographs of the ball. One can not estimate the value of signatures that can't be seen or evaluated for authenticity or quality - even for condition which is very important in this context. Some might be clubhouse signatures - who can say.

Hi,

I'd recommend either JSA (Florida or New Jersey I believe), Beckett (Dallas I think) or PSA (California?) for a baseball like this - any one of them are recognized pretty decently amongst collectors for items like this.

Although the ball is old, it's more in the 45ish year old range as that's when the Munson signature dates to. I'd expect it to sell in the mid to high hundreds range at an auction, maybe a bit more if you were to sell it yourself and were very patient with it.

When you say "mid to high hundreds", surely you don't mean something like $150 to $199 range. JJ

Nope, $500-1000 is what I meant. I'd personally guess it would go for $600-700ish at auction.

The major sports authenticators (psa, jsa, and bas) are able to authenticate the ball at many of the area shows and return it to you within a couple of hours. Check psacard.com to get their schedule. I would guess the ball to be closer to 40-50 years old, unless thurman munson signed an older ball. If you were to include a photo of the balls labeling, it would be easier to date.

Before sending it to the tpa’s, always start here. The expertise is off the charts and price is right! From my less informed perspective though, the ball looks solid. Good luck

Yeah they do it in an hour or two cause when they do these shows they don’t really authenticate as advertised. This is how a lot of the crap they authenticate get passed in large quantity.
