Please post a link and we'll take a look. Also, post autographs you are considering.

Most general estate auctions and small general auctions tend to be risky places to buy autographs but you do find the occasional gem. VERY occasionally!

This piece in particular:

(seems like a cheap estimate if authentic if you ask me)

I agree with you. I don't think that Che Guevara wrote or signed that. The writing looks far off from me. And yes, if real, the one you posted could sell for low 5-figures.

Here's an example of Guevara's handwriting that I think is real. It's on the BACK of a photo and sold for almost $10,000 at auction:

I feel like he was also not the type to sign photos of himself. There are a few authentic ones in existence but very few, and they certainly don't have estimate of a few hundred bucks.

To be fair, the auction house itself may be legit, but this seems like an item outside their normal repertoire.

I looked a few signatures I knew and they are suspect. The Madonna is really bad!

Thank you! What I figured....

This is what the auction responded with:

"Sorry we don't have anyt provenance or COA. It is an authentic signature not a reprint."

They do seem to have a few other random Cuban historical documents and, coming from an estate in Florida, that doesn't come across as suspicious. I wish there was a "Roger" of Che's I could email....

John Reznikoff of University Archives knows Che well. This looks nothing like his handwriting, though, so I think you can comfortably pass on the this lot.

Ordinarily I'd agree with you and move on. BUT, I have found authenticated docs he wrote with hasty, crunched, small spacing writing such as this piece displays. However, I have never seen the E elongated like this is. But I have seen the C connected to the H as such (although more uncommon).

I emailed Mr. Reznikoff and we see what he says! Thank you!!!

He replied with:

"From the scan that is not something I myself would buy

There’s been a lot of Cuban forgeries on the market lately. I’m not saying this is one, but I am very cautious"

Ok, now I will move on, I promise!! :)

That’s OK, it’s an education!
