This sold in the Graceland auction that ended on Jan. 8, as you can tell from the COA. These are better photos:

I think it's properly described as a check that was written out and signed by Elvis Presley.

It's laminated, which dramatically lowers the value. According to the auction, it sold for $2,500. It's priced on eBay at $2,499.99, so the seller is working on a rather thin margin, especially when you figure in eBay and PayPal fees. It was posted on eBay yesterday so maybe the auction sale fell through.

$2,500 is $2,000-$3,000+ less than one in similar condition that is not laminated. I don't think that's an unfair retail price, but it's on the high end. A lot of collectors wouldn't want it at all. I would have predicted it sold for $1,000-$1,500 at auction.

I recommend holding out for a problem-free check.

why can't you just cut the lamination off ?  and why does the autograph look like it was slowly written?  look at the bottom  of the A for example,  also  the seller is  loosing money on the graph? why start selling at a price that is less than you paid?

The process is generally irreversible (esp the 1970's versions) - it is adhered to the check, likely with heat. Seller is taking a loss and starting where they are because they overpaid for a damaged/challenged item. As Steve pointed out, many won't even consider it because of the lamination.

thank you - sounds like a too big of a risk trying to get it off!!!

maybe it is shellacked to a wood base?

I have a difficult time believing Elvis sat around signing checks. The "s" is not characteristic of his typical signature, and it is highly unusual to see the "l" as the highest point in his signature. I would never feel comfortable owning a E.A Presley check.

thank you for that thought!  I have heard other people question his checks as well!

+1. I was thinking more about answering the lamination question.

If it came from a recent Graceland auction I would lean towards 100% authentic

The signature looks proper even though the "l" in Presley seems a bit higher as terrier pointed out. But it has the correct right lean and formation to it.

Elvis' handwriting is substantially better on his cheques

I would still want opins from Epperson and Consola before buying.

But the lamination is a deal breaker unless substantially lower priced.

I would not assume that things from Graceland are very likely authentic. They sell a Lotta good stuff, but some of us have had concerns about things in the past.

I was told by several people that the authentication department at Graceland has been overhauled and upgraded

Hopefully this is true

But this is why I also stated having Epperson and Consola to view any Elvis before buying. I'm still searching for a personal Elvis but I want no suspicious minds. I will want everyone to say "no question, it's 100% authentic"

I agree I would want to be 100% confident! I don't like that the lamination is permanently stuck to the check!  and  I still question the way the pen seems to shake at times - or  is that normal when you blow it up so much?
