What would you choose? Is there a better time of year to sell?

My vote goes to RR Auction. Nothing but positive experiences. Accurate estimates, no fee reserves, and fair, negotiable consignment commissions and fees.
With music, I am not not aware of seasonal differences but I generally like just prior to Christmas auctions.

rr has reserves u just don't see or no about it ,yes its true they just handle lower end stuff
funny heritrage got rid of resrve in music about 2 years ago and theres fees for sellers are basically the same if not cheaper , there buyer is the same
heritage does start most auctions at 500$ dollars but has a special auction were all lots start at 1$ and they just sell

Heritage used to charge sales tax for buyers (technically influencing the hammer price) while RR only charged in MA. I have used both auction houses and have only consigned items over $3000. Regardless of your choice, be sure to mention that you are looking at other auction houses and use this as leverage for negotiating the best terms.
I generally use Heritage for Sports and they will pay for all authentication (and will even absorb the cost if the item fails) and never charge more than 10% for consignment.

heritsge charges sales taxes were they legally have to usualy were they have offices that's why .now I belive they do in all states .
but there buyers fees are basically the same heritage was 25% plus ur tax and rr was I think 28% plus tax then shipping from both.

heritage has an onsite authentication becuase they are a bigger company
heritage will not give u a 10 consignment fee for music and neither will rr and rr has a ton of add on fees
im sure ur paying there sloting fee and insurance becuace they wont wave those .
heritage will basically only take music stuff if they belive the value is worth over 1k. that's there threshold.

there was a shake up at a major one nothing bad but will take about a year to see if a new player emergergies and if one falls down lower in the tototum pole. sorry wont say im waiting like all to see the shake out and ive study auction houses for over 30 years .
theres no comparrision with the marking budget and staff that heritage has over rr and world wide name reconightion, . heritage wont even even take most of the stuff rr does as the value is way to low.

RR will try knock you down on your reserve prices if you are new to them but once you get in with them like there two big consignors Tracks and Pinnacle artists you can set up silly reserves and you see the same items with stupid high reserves revolve between RR and their own sites at every auction I think they do it to bring bidders in with little or no intention of actually selling the items ,also a lot of the time you are actually bidding against the house reserve and not another bidder so I would go with Heritage

rr all lots start at 200 that's the minium
but some have hidden resersve for music u also have as a seller a ton of add on fees with rr
but depending what the itiems are heritage is very hard to get stuff in unless its a large collection or high priced ,rr is very easy .people are dying to consign to heritage

Marc, can you explain “a ton of add on fees”? In addition to commission, I have only paid a flat $15 processing fee as a seller.

some auctions charge a photo fee whitch can be up to 100$
a insurance fee usually 1 to 2% of the minium value opening bid per itiem
some charge as u say a 15$ slot fee or processing same thing
and offcourse a fee to return if it doesn't sell and trust me no matter how cheap u can ship it to them it will be a lot more to get it back ,I meanu have to pay return shipping
those are the basic add ons
some do just charge a flat consignors fee
it really depends on your relationship with the auction house and and what ur consining the deals u can work out.
most aren't going to work to much for a new consignior with few itiems.

for rr I belive u payed 15$ per lot fee plus an insurance fee of 1 percemt u might not have noticed plus your sellers rate
I pretty sure rr has the insureance I havent look at a conctract from them in a year but u think it was in there as standard I know the 15$ was and is for all.
