It’s probably not something to even think about.  But thought I would check.  I recently purchased an autographed football that had been stored away in a house vault for the last 18 years.  So it lost some air pressure and could stand to be pumped up some.  Has anyone else done that with an autographed football or basketball?  Anything to be concerned about?

never tried it but I doubt it would have any negative effect.  I would inflate a little at a time, though.

it is happens to be signed by Tom Brady, I would keep it deflated and claim it as game used.  LOL

That is hilarious, Terrier!  I could also imagine someone saying, “Of course it’s deflated.  It’s a Brady football!”

Oh, and I could say it was a special ball Brady had sent in for the final 1:20 game-winning drive!  And he was so confident that the deflated ball would help so much that he had “New England Patriots - Super Bowl XXXVI Champions” imprinted on the ball already!!

Ok...now I’m getting carried away.  I know... ;0)

I would be a little nervous. What kind of ink? If delicate or sitting on the surface, image blowing up a balloon with something written on it in old time pain pen - it will de-laminate and flake/fall away as the surface underneath expands - that kind of ink will not. I'm not sure it matters if it was signed inflated or not - it is the time between. Go slowly and good luck:)

Great point, Eric.  I didn’t think about the possibility of flaking.  The autograph appears to have been signed in silver paint pen.  The ball and signature are in great shape, other than its being deflated...not completely...but still a good amount.  I would say it’s probably 40% deflated.

It seems a possibility. Go slow :)

I will...if I even do it.  What I might do is...go slow...and stop short of complete inflation.

I haven’t been this concerned about inflation since the Carter Administration. (Sorry, Mr. President.  I hope you regain your health soon!)

I tried inflating an old team signed ball once, but the inside of the ball that holds air had rotted over time so I never succeded. I hope you can get yours inflated without any trouble. :)

I didn’t think about that possibility either.  Did it do any damage to the ball?

Not that I noticed, I tried pumping it about a dozen times to no avail. I figured all the air must have exited through the seams. I still have the ball and haven't noticed any damage due to that, it's just deflated forever. Just slowly inflate it and see if it holds air if it does I'm sure it's fine.

Ok, thanks.
