Hitchcock Signed Self Caricature Sketch

I'm curious what members thoughts might be on this signed Hitchcock sketch. It has a JSA letter accompanying it (the darker scan is from the JSA website). It's approx. 6" x 6". If real, does it look to be an earlier sketch? Does the fact that it's not personalized make a difference? Thanks!

Hi Cory- I'd like to hear what others think on this. Personally, I don't think it looks right.

Here's why: I just started a blog on Hitchcock sketches here on the site and actually earlier uploaded your image and another that seem to be from the same hand. In fact, the dedications are both to "Ruth" and match in the writing and the sketch almost exactly. The second one caught my eye since it's currently for sale. I just stumbled upon the first one in Google images

I'll repost them here and see what you and others might feel about them side by side:

i sent the one that's inscribed To Ruth for a beckett signature review and it came back unlikely to pass full athentication. that's the one currently on ebay

I wouldn't take Becket's quick review too seriously. They are a joke.

Hi Michael....do you think the PSA quick opinion is a better service? I used both recently on this Hitchcock and Beckett gave it a negative thumbs down with PSA saying the opposite that it was likely authentic:

The problem with quick opinions is that you never know who is looking at the autograph. IMO, it's a waste of your hard earned money. You will get better opinions here than paying for a quick opinion.

I agree with you Joe about the better opinions here. I guess a positive of getting one and having it deemed "Likely Authentic" is that a subsequent full Letter of Authenticity on an item is probable (although not guaranteed, apparently).

I recently purchased a signed book from an old school bookseller. When I was speaking with him, I asked him if he had ever considered submitting it to one of the TPAs for a quick opinion. He seems like a pretty humble guy but laughed and said that with years of experience, he trusts his own eyes over that of an anonymous "authenticator" who may or may not have experience with a particular signer. He made that very point that you make that you really don't know who is rendering the opinion.

Mike, I'm curious as to why Beckett gave it a negative. Unfortunately, they don't give you a reason for their coming to that judgement. It looks like it may have been done when he was older.
