Star Trek: Cast Photo and Roddenberry Signed Invitation - Legit?

I have seen a lot of "atypical" Star Trek cast signed photos and suspect this may be another one.

  • William Shatner
  • Leonard Nimoy
  • Nichelle Nichols
  • DeForest Kelley

However, the Gene Roddenberry signed invitation seemed unique.  I was able to find a few likely authentic exemplars from RR Auction and Heritage archive which I have included for comparison.  Appreciate your feedback on these signatures.  Thank you.

Not authentic IMO.

Thank you as always EKL.  I felt the cast SP was off but had some hope for the Roddenberry based on the exemplars I shared. Admittedly, most of the exemplars I found had more significant differences but these two seemed close despite the "R" still looking off.

Hope for other comments as well but am not surprised by an "atypical" opinion.

bump - I put a lot of weight on Eric Keith Longo's opinions but would appreciate other opinions before I totally dismiss this set.  Was prepared for the cast signed photo not being authentic but had hope for the Roddenberry.  Thank you as always.

beardog1, Gene Roddenberry is not in my wheelhouse, I enclose a few 3rd party exemplars that are not mine. There are differences to yours. I don't judge. As for the cast signed photo, I agree with Eric, not authentic. Deforest Kelly and Nichelle Nichols had more flourish. Shatner does not look right and my street signed Nimoy looks better than your sit down Vegas or UACC cruise signatures from back in the day….In my humble opinion.

Thank you for the additional exemplars and comments, David.  None of the four signatures on the cast signed photo looked right to me but good to get feedback from someone who knows them better than me. Seems like the consensus is not authentic for the photo.

My initial research found several Roddenberry signatures like those you posted which included several differences versus mine (e.g., a loop to start the "R" rather than just a vertical line).  However, I did find the two examples I posted from RR Auction and Heritage which seemed closer to my OP.  I would definitely concede my OP is atypical, but appears it may have a chance based on these two examples and my inexperienced eyes.

Separately, I am in awe of the breadth and quality of your collection.  I don't have experience with most of your posts but enjoy seeing what you have and learning from the comments of others.

beardog1, Always collect exemplars for your library for future use. The exemplars I use are either in person or items I trust….That being said, collect 3rd party authenticated autographs once a week from SOLD on eBay or auction sites and build a library of your personal interests. I would concentrate on the inscriptions. To, From, or Best wish's etc……that is a key for secretariats and forgeries. My best. David

Good tips, David.  I do tap into online archives from trusted sources.  However, I am still developing an eye for both signature and context.  Love learning from experts on this forum but humbled by how much I still have to learn.

Sorry - I was speaking to the cast SP only.

Thanks for the clarification Eric.  Although the Gene Roddenberry signature has differences from many likely authentic exemplars I have found, I was able to find the two examples I posted which seemed similar.  Hoping to hear from others who may know his signature.

Disappointed but expected on the cast signed photo.  Thank you for your continued support as I try to sort the good from the bad.
