As far as I was aware, Ray never signed anything. He always said ‘I don’t sign anything I can’t see’.

I already posted the OP item to a huge Ray Charles thread in which the issue of whether he signed is discussed at length. I think Charles did sign on very rare occasions - at least I hope so as I have an example.

The OP item looks very similar to the "presumed genuine" examples I've seen - including mine - but £2,200 before commission seems a lot for such an indistinct autograph.

I think maybe people relied too much on the so called 'solid' provenance as the sig is so faint, either way it is strange it sold for so much money imo
