LAURENCE OLIVIER- Second Opinions (Any Help Appreciated)

Hello Everyone,

I am seeking to add a Genuine LO autograph to my collection. I already have a Vivien amongst others but I am unsure which out of the four options I'll attach, I should go after.

Anyone with experience in collecting Laurence Olivier autographs or SP's, please check this thread and let me know your thoughts.

Photo 1- 1945 Laurence Olivier SP (please don't mind the companies watermark)- the seller (Eaby- George-Houle-books-autographs 100% reviews)

Photo 2- Laurence Olivier from HD-history Direct (Item HFSID152683)

Photo 3- Laurence Olivier collab with Joan Fontaine rare, The seller (Regans Autographs.net)

Photo 4- Really nice piece, collab signature from 1951 with Vivien Leigh on 'Program' from History Direct (Item# HFSID 76408)

I appreciate anyone who helps out

Yes Eric, as always, you are right. This is only the top portion of the COA. The bottom portion has my information, the item I purchased and the price I paid.

The question seems to be what criteria can be used to "prove" that a piece is not authentic. My understanding is that only a PSA or JSA decision will be accepted, and that within a 10 year window as stated on the website.

Speaking broadly of several top dealers, when I have had a rare problem with an item I've never been asked to jump through hoops re TPG.

Etienne, when was the last time you purchased from them? I have a more recent LOA which states their authenticity return policy differently. I don't have one readily available but will fine one filed away ASAP which includes the 10 year PSA or JSA policy.

Awhile back they got called out on this site for some questionable Elvis Presley autographs. Russell Turner joined the site and responded. He also paid Roger Epperson to come in and authenticate all their Elvis signatures. The ones that passed remained and the others were pulled. I believe that is when the new policy was added.

Same thing happened with the Gleasons. The secretarials were pulled.

My suggestion would be to perhaps start a new thread specifically on this issue and invite a rep. from HFS to address their warranties & return policies. It would seem more helpful to have clarification than us here attempting to unpack it.

The Olivier sig on the Rebecce photo is in two different inks (a prolem), apart from playing second fiddle to the deeply contrasted Fontaine. If the still is a later reprint, which it looks and is suggested by the felt tip and ball point, it would be of even less interest.

Your first sentence is certainly valid as it states what the piece does for you....your opinion and you're entitled to it. I find the second sentence brash in stating absolutely "....should be avoided".

Someone is offering it and someone else may potentially purchase it and be delighted to do so. Unless it's not real, to each their own.
