I got this response -
"We are showing monthly recurring subscriptions for $X each that were set up under the name –  XXX – shipping to the address below (followed by a screen-capture of my billing details)"

Anybody that just signed up to pay monthly - did it say this in your last paragraph? As there is no mention of a signed Photo....

'No goods or services were received in exchange for this donation. The full amount of your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Please retain the receipt as the required documentation of your contribution'

That to me means I have't / won't receive anything in exchange for this monthly donation? Or am i being particularly thick today?

I got the same, probably a tax thing

They must state this, it's technically not a donation when you buy something.

This also means that you don't have a leg to stand on in case you don't receive the signed photo - you didn't purchase it, it's a gift at their discretion.

Sometimes it's a gamble. Last year I never received the signed Andy Serkis from another charity. I'm sure they were of good intent but something did go wrong, possibly in the mail. Can't claim your money back in such cases and have to hope the charity will make it right.

Thanks!! I'm in!

I'm in too, it's a good cause. And something we can support as a community. (AND get a nice autograph also!) Thanks to Mikenmar2 for bringing this to everyone's attention.

I'm also in but before I give away my credit cards details to an unlimited number of monthly charges, I need to know details on how to cancel it, which is not disclosed anywhere. I'm waiting for a response from them.

A tip, maybe you find it useful:

Because of this hobby we often make purchases on questionable websites (even if the operator is legit, the database security might not be up-to-date). Therefore I opened an account with an online bank where I can create virtual creditcards - they are linked to a bank account (debit) in the background.

So you only have to give them the virtual card number and make sure you keep enough debit to cover the monthly payments. When you decide to cancel but they don't respond, then you cancel the virtual card with one click.

Thanks, it's a good idea.

Got this response from them:

Janie’s Angels are recurring monthly givers and as a donor you are free to give whatever amount fits your financial ability.  For this promotion, we prefer that donors give a minimum of $5 a month for 12 consecutive months, but there is no legal obligation after the first payment.

If you decide to cancel you can contact us at any time via email donorservices@youthvillages.org or call our toll-free number 1.888.923.4483 and request for your monthly recurring subscription to be cancelled.

Yes, we ship international to the United Kingdom.

Hold on, they will ship the picture to the UK?

Yup they do international!
