Authenticity is Everything
Frank Sinatra. Opinions wanted.
I own this Frank Sinatra signature. It appears to be a late 1940's fountain pen signature on a book produced to hold records although the records were to be bought separately. The signature is faded with partial loss. I believe this appears to be genuine but would like opinions of others.
I have also added a photo of the album book itself for viewing and it was also produced in the mid to late 1940's.

It's a bit of a tough one for me because I would put it in the early 40's style
It's also tuff because I know you have an understanding of Sinatra and I bet you did some homework and are asking for a reason.
.Many things seem correct but oddly enough it resembles many secretarials and especially in the "S"
I have found that "B' style in Best but not that "W" in Wishes
Something struck me odd right away but to be honest I can't find out what.
Overall it looks OK but has that odd feel to it.Many specifics are correct for early "40's
That flamboyent "S" is a secretarial trait but can be found in some authentic (assuming they really are authentic)
I just don't know buddy

Joe, I have limited knowledge about Sinatra autographs (probably limited knowledge in general some would say =-] ), but from what I’ve seen I think this is likely authentic.

I am just beginning to investigate this piece. First glance, I thought it probably was a secretarial although the more I study this one, I am turning toward authentic. About 85% sure now.
Actually, one of the keys is unlocking the date of the release of the generic album holder. I've seen a couple of them with no signature. Not much data about the time frame it was available for public consumption. Mid 40's is as close as I can come so far.
If I can put the signature style and piece together via time frame we have something here. Condition is not as good as I would like to see but it would have a nice historical reference. At least to me anyway.

Closest I can get is 1946 or later, when some of thses songs were first recorded/released by Sinatra?

I believe we are in the ball park, Eric. I would think that he would not be using a secretary to sign for him so early in his career. From what I have gathered, this particular album holder was a very limited early issue by Columbia Records.

Appreciate your opinion, Rahat. That's why I posted this discussion. That was my first reaction especially if this was a later signature. This was stored in a closet for nearly 50 years before seeing the light of day. It compares more favorably with his mid 1940's signature. You could be right.

Here is a link to the best Sinatra signature study I have found. As you can see, early Sinatra signatures and some early secretarial are very similar.

that's what I looked at before commenting. It's also the same as the RR Auctions study.
then mix with other areas.
The thing is... I was trying to find that inscription style... the "B and the "W" in best wishes. I found only ONE example of that "B" that was supposidly an authentic example.
In conclusion, I would go w/ secretarial for this item

Thanks terrier and Eric. That was my initial opinion as well. In this case, I will defer to my initial and your opinions. I actually received this in a small lot that was not based on this piece. So no loss. I just find this item interesting and worthy of asking about. Plus, the signatures in this era between secretarial and genuine as close.
