Your Display Opinions Desired - David Bowie! 1976
Hello folks, looking for opinions. I've been fiddling with this for some time now. I think I have it. I could go about who took which photo when and all the stuff I love to talk about, but it really comes down to these images below. All I will say is the b/w photo is a 2010 RCA reprint (Nov. 1975 originals hard to find) and the color still is original. Also, with the color variation I tried to tie everything together with the colors inside the ship and for the thin mat I sampled his hair and the ink combined. Thank you!
PS - These were to be in scale, to themselves anyway, but I think I got it a bit wrong...

That red sig belongs with a color photo... No question
Color paper and color ink is hard on the eyes when in contrast with B&W anything
You know I love that Bowie sig and it deserves a great match

Goodcat put it into words very well. I was thinking the b/w to bold, too confrontational, so I used that hair/ink color. But it is the color, or lack of in this case, that was disturbing my eye. I think the color more subtle and perhaps more successful. Even if I put in thin black mat edges in the b/w version I think the "problem" remains - lifeless, stark and sterile. I'd not know what color to introduce or where. More opinions welcome! Thank you! This one means a lot to me.

I know you have a good eye for this stuff
I like the blueish mat as it goes well with the photo.
Now must blend the color paper .... Maybe play with a lighter frame color?
Are you playing with all this digitally on your photo program?

You are welcome Shawn, and yes, digital. The blueish mat is sampled directly from the ship interior and adjusted for "weight". Frame color/finish - good! Lighter - very good! Must think...1970's aluminum? It would be ther most inert...Something that you'd see in T.J. Newton's house...can you frame a painting in gin and tonic? He loved that in the film! ;)

I am the last person anyone wants to ask for advice about anything artistic since plaid is my favorite color. Having said that to me I really like the color photograph and mat. The black and white with the red autograph to my eyes seems a bit stark. I am a big fan of black and white photography but in this instance I think I would vote for the color.

Well, seems 3 for the b/w and 2 for the color. I think I know which one would sell fastest, but it's not the one that, to me, has the most delicate qualities and subtle thought. More work needed :) Thanks everyone!
