Ok I know the poster is not autographed but I thought it would be interesting to show that deceiving and ripping off unsuspecting collectors is not limited to autograph collecting.

The first image is a 1961 Beatles poster that is currently up for auction in the UK. Check out the bottom edge of the poster and you can see it is not a straight edge.  Also look at the size of the space from the “No admission...” copy to the bottom edge of the poster.

The second photo is the 1976 reprint of the original poster with the reprint information printed in the lower right hand corner. Again note how straight the bottom edge is, and note the distance from the copy “No admittance.....” to the bottom edge. There is a much smaller gap in the first photo.

Conclusion - the poster in the first photo has been purposely trimmed to try and make it look like it is the original poster.  Which only goes to show if you collect Beatles (or any) memorabilia you need to have access to collectors with a high degree of integrity to prevent being taken for a ride.

Beatle knockoffs are an industry now and there are some very clever forgers out there.

Great post, fab. Excellent scholarship. And you are absolutely correct, especially with The Beatles continued popularity.

There's an entire generation of new Beatles fans ripe for the pickens, without any of the knowledge us 'real-time' old folks possess to prevent that kind of fraud.

Which, once again, we owe folks like Steve Cyrkin tremendous plaudits for this forum.

there Are more poster fakes than autographes

there were and are 2 fd # 26 on ebay that were faked to be a first printing. one took somebody for 2500$ then the sucker who got ripped off relisted it on ebay trying to get what ever he could for by also lying
