Seems to me that ebay is lacking activity. No one hardly views or watches items like they used to. Is this just me, or have others noticed?

Things have def. slowed down for me. Seems to be a buyers market for now - too much choice perhaps? Buyers are content to sit and wait for a steal as opposed to a deal.

Probably depends on what you're selling and what the current market is. Also, it's summer now and people probably just aren't online shopping/surfing the net as much.

There will be somewhat of a summer lull, but in the rock poster arena that I buy and sell in mostly, things are still pretty active.

Since you’re in the rock poster arena, would you happen to know much about the rarity of certain Prince posters?  I have a authentic signed Prince poster, and I’ve found information which has described it as a rare, hard-to-find poster.  But I’m curious as to how rare.  It’s from his first studio album, “For You.”

baseball autograph section has gone to hell.  At one extreme you have over-priced buy it now items, and on the other end, the forgeries that have driven the prices of authentic items down.  I believe the latter has discouraged many legitimate sellers from participating any longer.

No E bay is not ok, they are a criminal enterprise run in the Philippines, IMHO.

I track many different collectible areas on ebay. I have for decades. Here's what I see. A steady progression over he past 2 decades of sellers gradually using more and more BIN listings and less auctions.  Ebay buyers appear to prefer auctions, no reserve, where there will be a winner. When more sellers were using that format to sell, far more sales, far more activity.

Fast forward and with time, 90% of the items listed in collectibles sections are BIN with "I really don't want to sell it" prices. It seems to be members listing components of their collections for insane, "I'll take it to my grave" prices, that really don't care about selling it unless they score a victim stupid enough to pay a price that the seller can easily replace it with another or it's like for half the price.

That's what it's become. A depository for the listing of collector's pieces that they really have no interest in selling nor need to sell.

Woody2shoes, great analysis. I am a full time seller on ebay and it does seem like the buyers prefer auctions. I have hundreds of buy it nows and very rarely gets purchases based on them. It's usually one item here and one item there. Luckily, I've gotten a couple "specials" over the last few months which are free listings for auctions, I then send the BINs to auctions and BAM they sell. LOL.

Does ebay allow reserves for sellers?

yes

Everyone likes to blame eBay. Yes, eBay should do more to detect forgeries and that doesn't help.

But the truth, IMO, is that the market is over saturated. Unless you are offering a high demand autograph you need to plan on sitting on it longer to find the right buyer. Of course, if you are willing to sell your autograph for a bargain price there are plenty of sharks in the water.

Patience usually pays off in the long run.

Another good point, Joe. People want bargain pricing. If I list a high quality item with a pricey signature and I list it at a higher price, it will usually only have one bid rather than multiple people bidding.

Even when I list a very low priced autograph it won't have too many bids and the winner is usually someone local to me who picks up items.

Overall I'm happy with ebay with the amount of sales I have and followers. Also, I've tried craigslist posting of my items and don't even get any interest.
