I could make a career of calling out bad U2 forgeries on eBay, but I like to stick to the ones that are especially bad on several levels. Like this guitar, which is currently being offered by eBay seller rdyatshttp://www.ebay.com/itm/Signed-U2-Guitar-With-COA-/302300087713?has...

As is the case with just about every U2 "signed" guitar, the signatures are laughable forgeries that require minimal examination to discover as such. The pretty stickers and elaborate display (which inexplicably includes photos from the Zoo TV tour) do nothing to conceal this.

The kicker is the COA, which deserves a special place in the Hall of Shame.

Okay . . . what is this? You actually can't even call it a certificate of authenticity, because it makes no reference to any business of any sort whatsoever. No address, no names, no signature. This is a print out that tells you nothing but a half-hearted fictional story. Also, whoever conjured this document up seems to have been torn on whether they wanted to make this a COA or an appraisal. Not a particularly smart individual in any case.

Let's move on to the anachronisms. The guitar is dated 2000, both by "Bono's" signature and whatever this document is supposed to be. The "late 2000 Elevation tour" did not exist, as the tour did not begin until Spring 2001. The tickets stub and tour program, produced in the tens of thousands, do nothing to validate what would be an extremely rare item and hold minimal monetary value.

Again, I could put together a lovely coffee table book on current U2 forgeries on eBay, but maybe I'll limit my resources to the dumbest of the dumb and the laziest of lazy. Like this item.
