Hi All,

This look good to you guys and gals? I see some problems. Seller says his dad got it working the tour which was in 1987/88 and a little in 1989. This disc seems to date to 1987 as the rest of the dates are not settled. In any event, I rarely listen much to sellers and stories but this signature seems quite a bit more recent in appearance and abbreviation to me - post C. 2000. Some slight slant/angle/formation/spacing/relationship oddness, perhaps even an odd placement? It appears an official Columbia promo - disc says "Demonstration Only". But is also looks like it might be a bootleg copy - the others I have seen images of are nowhere near this degraded with this moiré pattern and over contrasted look. If a bootleg I would have even more doubt about the signature. To me at any rate and in my opinion, perhaps nifty but too shifty - pass. Click to see proper image.

Hi Eric - I'm sure you may want to get other opinions than mine, but I would like to show you a couple exemplars from my files which match characteristics of this signature to the item in question, which I believe matches the era and is indeed authentic.

Here is David's first name from a signed MLOR album (most likely 1987-89).

Notice all similar characteristics regarding flow and formation. In the first 'D' a strong sign in an authentic is the tail. Both the item in question and the item above exhibit this tail. The attack to the 'a' is also another similar characteristic in both. Each also have the dot in relatively the same area.

I also agree that it is an authentic Gilmour signature.the example you are using here Corey is one that I own.
Knew it looked familiar! Sorry not to give yours the credit for it up front Paul. It's a beauty, I own a similar.
Don't say your sorry,no big deal.thx.I know you own a similar one,There's a nice one on rr this month.the color picture of him on stage.

But we have just had a thread where that example is questioned seriously.

Haha yeah as Eric mentioned, I've created another tread about that photo. I personally would stay away.

There can be mistakes as well as disagreement. In any event, I have secured a much fuller and I believe interesting promotional item of a form I didn't have. Collecting the item that inspires personal confidence as well as satisfaction is an individual thing which keeps this interesting. Avoiding something and knowing when to accept is an individual thing.

Now lets take a look at the last name. The exemplar I am using to demonstrate this formation is in my personal collection - a signed Final Cut from the mid 80s.

Notice formation in the last name - more of a rushed version but nonetheless contains very similar loop structure to the one in question.

Lastly, I did see that you questioned that the copy may be a bootleg. I asked the seller for a better picture and it looks a lot better than the one in the auction...I believe this is an authentic Tour CD - as well as an authentic Gilmour signature.

Those last 2 images show some of what I don't like. The D, G, flow and slant, the relationships of the "d" and "l" and where they are heading. It is just not an example I wish to collect. The last image appears the same image as the auction - the hot spot is identically placed and the angle of the image is identical looking at the sides - just different sharpness. The questioned one has a fluidity of its own I don't care for.

The D & G are good and I do not think a forger can be this close to this type of fluidity throughout the entire signature. Slant I believe is just an issue on how he held the item - here is a straightened version (that even contains a slight typical upward slant relative to the start)

These promo inserts were only a single image on the front - blank on the back - not a booklet of any sort - hence the sharpness on the sides.

May not be an example you would go after, but I believe many others would

Anyone can make a mistake. I would not be alone.

"...May not be an example you would go after, but I believe many others would...."

Well, being comfortable with an item is very important to me. The thing closed for $300 BIN and is relisted and appears to still be up with no bids. Maybe someone will get a deal, maybe not.
