Currently up for auction is a 1956 postcard that the seller claims was written by Elvis Presley's mother Gladys Presley.

Mrs. Presley was responding to a young female fan who had written to Elvis...except that from my observations this postcard was not written by "Mrs. Vernon Presley" as it has been signed.

There are fully documented examples of Gladys Presley signature and this item in no way matches the known exemplars. In fact this offering from 1956 via the still clear post mark does not appear to me to be in Gladys Presley's hand at all.

The seller assures any potential buyer that this item will pass the test from any recognized authenticator.

I have very serious doubts...

A very interesting piece Don. And you are right. This item in no way matches to known exemplars.

Well we've got some great news...

The seller today added a qualifier to his listing that states this item in not in the hand of Gladys Presley.

I went back and forth with him a few times and convinced him to clarify his listing...

He has and is now advising all potential buyers that Mrs. Presley no doubt had someone write this on her behalf and to therefore "bid accordingly".

Happy days...
