I was doing my regular auction trawl last night and came across this oddity.

I much prefer Beatles autographs from the earlier or later periods (or at least ones that were not signed when they were signing like crazy in 1963) so I starting licking my lips when I saw the attached item pop up.

To my relatively untrained eye the signatures on the back look early - as if they could have been signed when the Beatles were still playing in Hamburg. However, the letter of provenance states that they were obtained in late April1963.

I am not totally confident that the signatures are quite right for 1962 anyway - particularly the Paul and Ringo.

Anybody have any views as to whether the signatures:

1. Are right for 1962?

2. Could possibly be from April 1963?

Why a Star Club card would have been to hand in Shewsbury, England is another question of course.

Parlophone promo card signed in Jan. 1963...

This one is from Jan.18, 1963...

Odd, I've for autographs from Nov 1962, March 1963 and June 1963 and George Harrison's autograph is identical across all of them. Upper case H and the style of the "G" is completely different from the one above. All mine are owned by someone who met them face to face at three Birmingham venues one a one off date they did in Birmingham and on two national tours, the first with Chris Montez and Tommy Roe and the 2nd on the Roy Orbison tour. On all mine the H is in upper case and crossed across middle and the "G" is far more fancy. Even the 2nd G in George looks very different.

The week of the 18th of Jan was the week they did their first national TV broadcast on a music show here in Birmingham at the ATV studios in Aston. It was broadcast on the 19th but recorded the week before. On the 18th they were in Morecambe.

The original subject of this thread went for £2,700 + commission yesterday. Not too bad but too creased for me. The discrepancy between the letter of provenance and the style of autographs put me off too - though I could have lived with that.
