Prince signed “Purple Rain” promo movie poster sells for $18,375
As Prince fans, I thought many of us would be interested in knowing this information.
I found this out by looking through RR Auctions past sales, that an original promo poster for the Purple Rain movie signed by Prince, “Love God, Prince” sold in February this year for $18,375. It measured 21x32. RR said it was the first Purple Rain signed poster they had encountered.
Prince autograph prices continue to rise quite a bit. About the cheapest you might find a signed album for is $5000+. Signed photos are more like $5000+. Even signed cards have gone for over $4000.
It does make me wonder what my signed poster might be worth...but it’s not Purple Rain. It is a rare promo poster for his first album from 1978, with an early signature example. His “rookie” poster could be attractive to a lot of people, but I think Purple Rain is probably the ultimate for Prince.

A Prince cut autograph signed “Prince” in purple ink sold for $4165. A “Do Me, Baby” 12” signed promo album sold for $5800. And a Christmas card signed, “Love God, Prince” sold for $4269.

I think the reason why Prince prices keep going up is simply supply and demand. Prince was a pricey, rare autograph when he was alive. And after his passing, people start grabbing up whatever supply was available. Now, with many collectors holding onto what they have, the supply has gotten even more restricted, and thus the supply can’t come close to meeting the demand.
