On first look, one might think no way is this authentic. However, that funky way the l connects to the top of the J is very similar to some of Jordan’s pre-UDA stuff. This very well could be authentic depending on the time period. Let’s see what others think.
Not authentic IMO. While there are authentic examples of the connected loop, this one I believe is fake. Some of these forgeries came out of a TV show that sold sports memorabilia years ago. For years, they were legitimate selling mostly authentic Scoreboard items at ridiculous prices but then they started selling bogus Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, and yes Michael Jordan items. I bet this is a replica jersey which was the medium they used for the forgeries. I actually have one that came in a collection I bought from a guy who thought everything was legitimate but after studying it I suspected it was not authentic and submitted to a 3rd party authenticator who opined "Not Genuine."
I believe what you’re saying, Randy. I’ve seen this same style attached to either PSA, JSA, or BAS LOAs more than once. And unfortunately what happens is that when a bogus style gets accepted as genuine, the mistake is often repeated multiple times, by one, two, or all three of the major TPAs.
Ive seen the same fake Madonna style authenticated multiple times by BAS and PSA because one of the authenticators accepted it as real, and then the mistake is repeated again and again.
This one is also PSA/DNA authenticated. This one is also the connected loop variety. There was just a skip in the connection. The date of the PSA LOA is August 1, 2015. These are both very close to the OP. I honestly don’t know if they’re right or wrong about these.
I don't think this one is authentic either.
The encapsulated one is IMO. I see a significant difference between the encapsulated one and the one in this thread. Look at the slant, angles, formation of "M".
Look at them side by side and you will see an obvious difference.
I would not say I am a Jordan expert but I am familiar with this style and know there were a lot of these replica jerseys that were forged and sold on television to unsuspecting buyers who knew nothing about autographs. All show some signs of authentic traits, as that is the essence of forgeries.
Let's see if any other Jordan experts chime in.
I agree that there is significant difference between the encapsulated one and the OP. You can see it quickly in the M’s. Whereas, the SI is closer to the OP. The M is messed up in both of these and similar to each other.
I agree Bird is authentic.
I don't like the Jordan but I guess possibly it was signed in a hurry. I have not seen any authenticated ones that look like this but I doubt they got legitimate Bird autos and fake Jordan ones for this promotion so I would likely lean authentic only for that reason.
I know more about the connected loop version than others because I studied them when I had one I thought might be authentic many years ago.
