There has been a lot of confusion lately about Elvis Presley autographs due to a discussion that was recently posted. Elvis is one of the hardest autographs to authenticate as he had so many styles of signatures. After 20+ years of studying his autograph even I can get fooled every once and awhile. What messes up the forger is greed. The autograph gets too consistant for Elvis and they get caught. Recently a VERY good forger popped up and fooled me and others. The good thing is before the forgeries could be sold we figured out the forgeries and put a stop to this person. As you will see in this post "Elvis was consistantly inconsistant in the way he signed and wrote". There are though things he always did that show through though. All I am going to do here is post authentic signatures. I won't be explaining them in any way, that will be for you to do to educate yourselves. I will answer some questions though if needed. Enjoy!

Ahh Grasshopper, keep looking and you will find your answers.  I will post more shortly

thanks

Here are a few more

Spent hours looking at these bloody Elvis sigs and got no real inkling at what was consistent - the 'L' is not always consistent BUT at least your post is a start

Thanks terrier

'bout time you got back Roger - glad commonsense has prevailed so that we can all learn - (no inference that you were not using common sense - or maybe i meant cooler heads - or maybe time out - or maybe -ah bugger it 'Welcome back')

thanks grant
The first thing you need to do is group them in era's, most of the one's I listed are on things you can probably tell the era.  Start with 50's, 60's and 70's.  Then the ones that aren't on something dated you can then put those images in with the group they compare to.  This will strengthen you mind.
The "l" differences is usually one of the first traits explained in Elvis' signature. I believe it's in all the signature studies. It's one important trait.
I thought the title of this discussion was REAL Elvis Autographs? what is the point of these?
I agree with you but I can't control the intent of others.  This blog is not about forgeries at all.  That was done on another blog.

it is always good to compare and contrast authentic to the non authentic ones as it helps distinguish especially if there are some additional verbiage that can be shared.

since Elvis items are still highly prized I wonder how the forgery business is doing on his behalf.

There have been plenty of sightings.

ok, you made me go look...  but haven't we covered a number of these throughout these threads.  Maybe we should pull and create some moderated blogs on them so we don't end up meandering as we often do.  And look who is number 1 on the list "The King lives on" lol

according to PSA/DNA 12/2010 report we have

1) Elvis Presley
2) The Beatles
3) John F. Kennedy
4) Marilyn Monroe
5) Michael Jackson
6) Jim Morrison
7) Neil Armstrong
8) Jimi Hendrix
9) James Dean
10) Walt Disney

"This past year 2010, our experts reviewed over 200,000 autographs submitted by collectors and dealers worldwide. PSA/DNA does not often receive obvious forgeries, so if our rejection rate for a particular autograph, such as Babe Ruth and Elvis Presley, approaches or exceeds 50 percent, you can only imagine how high that percentage might be in the overall marketplace," Orlando cautioned.

Kyle,

It's sad but true, Greg told a trusted person in the business that he was going to post that image to try to show a screw up that he thought I made.  This is a fact, after I was told I looked at it again and still come to the same conclusion that this autograph is indeed authentic.  Him not knowing 70's Elvis signatures very well led him to believe that this was not an authentic signature thus would post it like he's done before to try to show how superior he is to me and us all.  I'm going to just ignore "The Van derhoven" from now on and continue to do what I do.
