There has been a lot of confusion lately about Elvis Presley autographs due to a discussion that was recently posted. Elvis is one of the hardest autographs to authenticate as he had so many styles of signatures. After 20+ years of studying his autograph even I can get fooled every once and awhile. What messes up the forger is greed. The autograph gets too consistant for Elvis and they get caught. Recently a VERY good forger popped up and fooled me and others. The good thing is before the forgeries could be sold we figured out the forgeries and put a stop to this person. As you will see in this post "Elvis was consistantly inconsistant in the way he signed and wrote". There are though things he always did that show through though. All I am going to do here is post authentic signatures. I won't be explaining them in any way, that will be for you to do to educate yourselves. I will answer some questions though if needed. Enjoy!

Kevin, my friend. Your ramble was anything but. And it was an inspiration for a meaningful improvement to Autograph Magazine Live!

What if we have everyone post in their profile the specifics of their expertise? Especially in the areas they're posting or commenting on. And maybe start their first comment in a discussion with an explanation of their experience?

Site members and visitors need to understand where the person speaking out is coming from.

Sounds good Steve...

Respected?  Who respects people that aren't out on the street and have never gotten an autograph in their life?  Maybe a Babe Ruth or Elvis is fine to have an opinion on but even that you are constantly second guessing each other.  Its all nonsense.

The only way you can be sure is to go out and stand in the cold and get it yourself!

If you can tell me how to get a Bela Lugosi, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, Babe Ruth (you get the point) in-person, I am "all ears"!!

Or, I'd love to tag along.

P.S.  I don't drink,,,;}

Ronald

I have been chasing autographs since 1977.  That is the reason I have such an incredible collection of exemplars to study from.

Thanks mr. Epperson. I do hope they are because I just bought one from the 1994 Butterfields Elvis auction. It wasn't the photo I would have chosen, but the price was right.

I'm calling a cooling-off period until Tuesday, 8 a.m. Pacific Time.

Greg, please don't contribute to this forum until then, and then stick to the topic--REAL Elvis Presley autographs. Only examples of real ones will be allowed in it.

Roger, no Greg comments please, since he's not allowed to respond. You should be able to moderate this discussion yourself and remove any autographs that aren't real from replies. There should be an Options button under Photos and Videos on the Navbar, and select Moderate. Let me know if it doesn't work.  Feel free to leave any autograph on you think is genuine, even if it's been represented as a forgery. Just add a correction in bold starting with something like "Roger's Comment:"

We've tried this site without rules for two years, but it's time for some. The delay is my fault—I hate rules.

We could do so much more with rules, a code of conduct, and a little more direction. It's time.

Roger, you've got more guts than any authenticator I've ever known--and no one has tried harder to help collectors. Thank you...we really need you here.

Here is a link to an Elvis autograph obtained in person by (late) Mr. Jyrki Hämäläinen who used to be the editor of legendary Finnish pop magazine "Suosikki". He met Elvis in Lake Tahoe where he gave Elvis some Finnish police badges. Scroll down and you will see the autograph:

Very cool, thanks for sharing, it's a bit hard to see but looks authentic.  Very unusual for him to print the salutation like that.
I started saving copies of Elvis sigs that I saw on line going back a few years.  Here is one that I always felt was real.

Just an outsider's perspective...This started off as a really great forum discussion - like Grant/Greg's Hendrix lesson, but the only people that are not going to get confused by what is going on is Roger, Grant/Greg, and possibly Steve. This forum (and honestly all of the discussions on this web site exceeding 3 pages) are very hard to follow for the average viewer. I don't see how this does anyone any good. If this is going to be an educational post on Elvis signatures, lets let that be it and let Roger & Grant/Greg fight it out over the phone or via instant messaging. This "rooster" type behavior is something I remember witnessing when I was in grade school (that was a very long time ago) and not since, except maybe during the television broadcasts of presidential debates, but I digress. Grant/Greg, I am sorry to say that your humour does not transfer well to the written page. I am sure you are charming and the laugh of the party at home, but when reading your esoteric language style on a flat computer screen, it really is a bit much. I like to laugh too and enjoy it when one interjects humour into their postings - if easily read, but if I wanted a laugh I would go to menwholooklikekennyrogers.com and get my kicks there. The reason no one took your posts serious that the Elvis signatures were real, is because everyone thinks that everything you are saying is sarcastic in tone. We cannot see your wink and a nod (or) your straight face when you make your postings. Roger - why are you playing into anybody's shenanigans? Ignore them and back your findings up with facts or make no comment when someone is trying to get your goose. I'm sure it's easier said than done, but have some restraint, you're supposed to be a professional and I'm sure the companies that offer your authentication services had rather not hear that you are inviting people into the octagon, whether literally or not. Just remember outside of this little group (of 4 or 5 following this - and the other 3 people at ANL) no one really cares or believes any of the b.s that is thrown around on these sites.

Now, let's get back to learning about REAL Elvis signatures. Honestly, something I have never purchased much of because of the high percentage of fakes known to be out there. Tip of the hat to you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us eager to learn, and to you as well Grant/Greg (is this name a joke too?) for your EXCELLENT Hendrix study.
