Generally speaking, unless there is a specific connection, single signed balls are more desirable.

It's a great question! As JK said...there has to be a connection to increase the value. If not, it would probably decrease the value. As a kid, I had a ball signed by many players on the Atlanta Braves (Dale Murphy being the biggest name). Well, I knew Randy Jones (former Padres Cy Young winner) was going to be at a party. I brought the ball, and he signed it. That...was what you call a rookie mistake.

But, I had a crazy argument with someone that did a sports column for Autograph Magazine, back when I was doing my entertainment column for them. He was under the impression that a baseball autographed by Babe Ruth by himself, is worth more than a ball signed by Ruth and a few of his teammates. He was SO WRONG in that, unless as I told him, one of those signatures is across Ruth, or Ruth didn't sign in the sweet spot. Any baseball fan, that knows anything about anything -- would rather have a Ruth signed ball, also signed by some of his Yankees teammates. For one, that's insanely rare. Two, it's more major league autographs on the ball. Three, it's signatures that are probably super rare, because how many autographs are out there from Major League players that played in that era???

since whitey played till 67 and Mel started in 64 it’s like the changing of the guard. Unfortunately Mel’s team was horrible and whitey’s was great!

it would not appeal to someone collecting single signed HOF'ers but would definitely appeal to a Yankee fan.

Whitey Ford signed balls are not considered high priced items so even if the other signature devalues it, it would not be by much.
