Hi All,

Was offered this ball at a local card convention. Let me know what y'all think. I'm really new at this but would love to add this piece. Price is great. Any thoughts on the inscription as well. It's on AL ball. Thanks

very nice ball.  looks good to me. inscription is common, its the year he got elected to the hall of fame.

Joe Dimaggio is one of the hardest in my opinion to give an opinion on...his style ranged from extremely pristine and neat to down right sloppy...I have seen my fair share of fake Dimaggio's and unfortunately I don't think this inscribed ball is authentic...

Based on the shakiness of the "J" and the "J" formation and the inscription...I think it's not authentic...

Whats the guy asking ?...A really under cut price can be a good sign as well...

Is it authenticated ?

Last but not least...an authentic Dimaggio inscribed ball should range in the $325-$450 range

It's GAI authenticated. He wants $325 but is willing to take $300 for cash. I posted this on another message board and they said the sig was good but someone said the inscription looked like it was written after... then another poster said that he read in Dimaggio lawyer's book that he only signed 1000 balls with that inscription so it's very rare. He said that Dimaggio hated signing his HOF year. If that's true then why so low? Checked ebay and they range in price with the inscription so I'm not sure.

I would stay away from this Daniel...G.A.I has been known for authenticating a lot of bad stuff...I am sure someone else should get in on this thread...but from the letter of authenticity and the way it looks alone I would stay clear away from this piece...

I didn't like that it was GAI either and he was willing to do $300 or even less for cash. I've read a lot of bad reviews on GAI. So I asked if I could take a pic of it and post here and the other site I'm a member of. I stick to PSA and JSA, (I know they have made mistakes as well) As always, Thanks for your input. My search for a good Joe D will continue then.

Daniel...you can compare this ball to the one in question...The auto looks nothing like the one pictured...neither does the inscription...and check out the price...its practically a $600 difference...as far as the inscription from his lawyers book I think there being referred to the ones that were authenticated by Joe Dimaggio Estates...those were most likely numbered to 1000...I have seen the HOF inscription on many items...

That is 100% accurate.  He very rarely signed HOF and his year.  When he was requested to do so for a private signing, like QVC, he did.  When I asked him to put HOF and his year on my home plate with 44 Hall of Famers on it, he glared at me and paused, then reluctlantly wrote HOF, but refused to put the year.  He then signed the rest of my items horribly.  If he were asked to add this inscription and you talked him into it, I'm positive it wouldn't be written very neatly.  Anybody who has had an in person experience with Dimaggio can probably attest to his lack of friendliness.  I met him twice and both times he was miserable.

This ball is from Joe Dimaggio estates I purchased back in 2001...at that time he been deceased for 3 years...I bought it back then for $400.00

Hey Daniel..if you were looking to spend the $300 you may be better off getting on of these...these are 1000% authentic...I actually own one myself...these are quite affordable and I think all collectors interested in getting a Dimaggio should purchase one of these...

Heres mine...Good Luck Bro...I think you should go this route for now...an authentic Dimaggio...for $125 less...although not on a ball...at least you can have something authentic in you collection to be proud of...

Thanks for the ideas but I'm trying to get him on a ball. I try to stick auto baseballs and will continue to look for one. Just fell in love with the price but again that's what always worries me. But some people are willing to sell these items cheaper these days because of financial constraints.

Daniel, I am still not convinced the ball is bogus, but I do stay away from anything that GAI touches. even if they get it right, their reputation is so bad that I believe it actually devalues legitimate items.

I trust CEE GEE's eye and opinion. I do not see the shakiness, however, and most Dimaggio forgeries do not get that counter clockwise loop in the first g correct.

but if you really want to feel good about your signed ball, spend the extra money. it is worth it.

Thank you. I think I rather err on the side of caution then spend the money on the ball and have people question the authenticity of it. So I will just look elsewhere.
