eBay forgers and forgeries with positive feedback

Hey everybody, hoping that you are having a great year so far,

I wanted to share some of my experiences browsing autographs on eBay. Last year has been great for me in terms of collecting, since I've gotten many great finds, some of them through eBay. I've managed to get some great items from RACC trusted sellers, and re-sellers as well. Some of my favorite artists either don't sell their autograph at all, or have had autographed merch in the past, that is not being sold officially anymore.

But of course this didn't come immediately, as I've always had to stumble upon a bunch of junk forgeries and bad sellers peddling them. One such case was an interesting one:

There is a seller on eBay with two accounts, both have had 100% positive feedback over the last few months. I'm not going to say who this individual is, but I will say that this seller refers to himself as an "authentication company", but actually just sells junk items he got elsewhere, with his home-made toilet-paper COA attached to them.

When I confronted this individual about it, via private messaging, he said that I am disturbing his business, and then he threatened me and said that I've "crossed a line and made it personal", and that "I will pay for what I've done".

This isn't the first time I've stumbled upon such a case - there are some sellers on eBay with 100% positive feedback, who sell junk items that they got in bulk, from forgers, and when you confront them about it, they deny the facts.

In response to your strange reply. Roger Epperson had said that it was fine looking at the images. How would I know that it was printed without looking at it personally?

And no , youre wrong,there is authentic Elvis stuff all over the world that wont have been looked at by experts, we're not talking about signed SGT Peppars albums. Most people who own autographs have never even heard of JSA/ PSA and Beckett. They've just bought an autograph with a random C.OA and believe it to be authentic or no CO.A at all. I've bought loads of Elvis items without COA s on Ebay and sold them through RR.

How could Roger unless he recognized the print? This is why I never suggest buying from a quick opinion alone - live ink can't be accurately determined.

On the contrary, I think quick opinions are incredible tools. From the hundreds of quick opinions Roger has given me I'd say two or three were printed. Definitely worth a gamble I'd say.

On the contrary, I think quick opinions are are incredible tools.Ive had hundreds of quick opinions from Roger and only one or two have turned out to be printed. Here in the UK we have an expert called Garry King who is brilliant at determining the difference between a print and live ink.

My advice would be, yes JSA,PSA and Beckett are your safest bets if you want reassurance and a future investment, but there are other ways of doing it.

King does that with scans? I don't use any of those services. I don't collect certified material - at best it is full value or overpriced. I use my experience and knowledge and buy raw. It is not just live ink - all QO's can later still fail full in hand authentication. We just saw that a few times here, and not for live ink/prints. When we had the BST Forum here, one could not sell anything with any QO regardless of source. Some folks still think they are authentications. So far I have never needed papers to sell.

You can always ask for better photos. If you're unsure of the photos / seller refuses to send you more photos, it's better to be safe than sorry.

"Most people" have never been a metric for something as autograph authentication. I'm not sure what loads of Elvis items you're talking about... eBay is filled to the brim with forgeries of ultra-famous people who are no longer with us.

If you're going to buy an autograph of someone like Elvis Presley from the internet, the only safe way is to stick with third-party authenticators, and even these guys have done their fair share of mistakes in the past.
