I’ll keep you informed if I am able to move this forward.  I have done two tv appearances that drew a pretty good responses and three newspaper articles.  It has been awhile though and the forgery mob, especially on eBay has only grown.

The main problem is eBay seller ratings. Inexperienced people see 99% and they assume they don't have to worry about authenticity.

I totally agree with you.  It is shocking how quickly and easily people are willing to get rid of their money and the assumption that everyone is honest.  If I had a dollar for every time someone replies with “but it has a certificate of authenticity!”  If they even took two minutes to go through the sold section of Mickey mantle signed items and saw the district difference between the price range.  It’s not like one or two items were sold cheap and someone got a great deal.  There are hundreds that are cheap and then a decent portion that are expensive.  they should be asking the question as to why is there such a big difference?  Then with even an ounce of brains, compare the two groups!

It shocks me too. These same people, when buying a car, have everyone under that hood including their father, brother, friends and personal mechanic. Almost no one buys a really top painting without expert advice. Why does logic simply go out the window. with autographs?

Exactly!  There are some in your face red flags too.  The seller is in Taiwan, they seem to have an unlimited supply, many are written with the exact same description, etc.  The forgeries seem to be getting much closer than they used to be, but there is still obvious shakiness and hesitation with no flow.  I also have been noticing that many of these will have 30, 40+ bids.  Not that it means many people are bidding, but how badly they want it.  There have been some Mantle balls that are going for as much or more than legit signed baseballs.  Photo’s too!  I wish I wasn’t so stuck on others stupidity, but I just can’t help it.

Ebay ratings!!!  PFFFT.

I remember years ago there was an Ebay seller who sold over $750,000 in forged guitars, forged guitar pics, etc.   The seller had a 100% Feedback Rating.

Eventually that seller was booted from Ebay, but not before they sold hundreds of thousands of dollar in forgeries.

I remember that. I forget who they were but they had a retail operation as well.
