Seeing in another group one person charged $48 duty in the US for the CD.
If that is the case, there seems to be a little jiggery pokery going on. The tariff code for music CDs imported into the US is 8523.49.3000 and is duty free.
If the autographed card is charged separately-this may not apply. Dig charges a separate fee for the autographed card.
I Believe it is shipped where the customs invoice would have the music CD and/or LP as a line item. And another line item for the signed art card. Both items are duty free into the US
CD = 8523.49.3000 tariff code / duty free
Art Card = 4911.10.0080 tariff code / duty free
Maybe the $48 fee stated by "matterdown" is the brokers handling fee or something.
4911.10.0080 is unlikely to fly since it's primarily having to do with printed advertising materials such as catalogs, brochures, advertising posters, etc.
Maybe. Either way - if the art card is classified to any specific tariff code in chapter 49, it is duty free. There is a slight possibility one may classify a signed art card to 9701.91.0000 tariff code. That is duty free too. Not sure where a broker would classify this to other than the tariff codes I mentioned.
Usually all types of advertising, printed matter and things of that nature are all duty free into the US.
As I stated very early on in this post. IMO, whatever cost one will encounter upon impartation, it is worth it.
I’m hoping Canadians like myself get a pass since we are part of the commonwealth.
Received this morning in the Uk and the art card is cd size. Was hoping it would have been album size but still happy with it. 👍
