Are there any websites that serve as databases for authentic autographs?  I have old copies of the Sanders price guide that included some signatures in the back of the books.  The old Autograph magazines had a page of samples in each issue.  It would be great to have a section on this website for the posting of signatures either for review or as authentic examples.  Thanks.

We talked about that a couple years ago, but never got it going. I'll be happy to set an area up if we can get a group of people to manage it.

A great start would be if someone could scan those pages from the old printed magazines.  It would mean some work to categorize the signatures.

Yes it was in the works about two years ago.  We tried creating a wiki but it fell through.  (I still have my exemplars that I downloaded for football and such but I wasn't really sure about creating a wiki.  Steve you said this back then:This database and other authentication references have been in our plans for a while, and I'm thrilled to have members like you push me to get it done. The database won't just have autographs considered genuine, but forgeries, too.

I'd like collectors to have the ability to do side-by-side comparisons. Wouldn't that be cool? No easier way to learn.

We've acquired online rights to Charles Hamilton's "American Autographs" and we're going to be putting it online shortly for everyone to use, free--probably in January. The two-book set sells for $700-$1,000; it's been out of print since 1983.

Do you still have the rights? Maybe that can give this a jump start?  Just suggesting, I would gladly like to contribute some examples I have.

I had also contacted Travis Roste back then, and he gave us permission to use his massive amount of boxing exemplars.  Here's the email just in case:

Mike, I wouldn't mind doing that, but there is just so many boxers to do, it would take forever.

I put up hundreds of exemplars on my own website of heavyweight boxers, and it took over 100 hours to do it. I just don't want to tackle something like that again. If they want to put a link to my site for people to look at boxing exemplars, they are welcome to do that. No need for duplication because it really is a ton of work that I have already been through once.

Sincerely,

Travis

Edit: it appears his website no longer exists though, my fault.

I believe www.isitreal.com has such a collection of known authentic examples.

http://thecead.com/ is one resource for classic entertainment autograph exemplars.

If there are other sites of exemplars, maybe the links can all be included in one section.  I am familiar with Gary Brancato's site (TheCEAD.com) and looking for other types of autographs as well.  it would be great to have a one-stop shopping site for this service.  I also realize it is a lot of work putting this together.
